CandiGirl is learning how to SWIM.
Amitriptyline in Opiate Recovery

SWIM has for many years been addicted to opiates. Be it Heroin or opiate/opioid pain medication.

SWIM feels the time is right to be clean for good. SWIM is 27 and would like to enjoy life with some "normality".

By normality, SWIM means waking in the morning and NOT think, mmmmm todays' a nice day to score!

SWIMs GP has prescribed her amitriptyline for depression and insomnia. SWIM is already on Methadone.

SWIMs dosage is: Amitriptyline 75mg before bed.
Methadone 35mg/ml in the morning.

SWIMs recovery is going quite well. SWIM has been heroin free for almost a month. SWIM knows about the side effect of amitriptyline, but cannot beleieve how "zoned" SWIM becomes when she takes her dosage at night.

SWIM is not suffering from lack of sleep, but SWIM is just "zoned" out the whole time. Not just at night. SWIMs GP is not keen to lower the dosage as he feels it will hamper SWIMs recovery and will lower its effects on the depression, which he feels is the cause of the addiction.

Can anyone tell SWIM if they have had similar effects? Does this even out over a period of time? (Does the body become tolerant to the dose?)
Has amitriptyline worked for depression and drug addiction for any SWIMMERS? Can anyone recommend another tricyclic with less of a "head emptying" effect? (SWIM can be staring into space for ages, not actually thinking about anything).

Strange SWIM thinks, that the only other thing she can compare the feeling to is being stoned on H, but without the euphoria, rush and excitement.

All advice and recommendations will be greatly received.

Love and Light,

C xx
