CandiGirl is learning how to SWIM.
GHB as a treatment for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism

Any SWIMMERs have any information on the abpve subject??

SWIMs friend had difficulties with Crack Cocaine, Heroin use and heavy alcoholism. He has seen some research into GHBs success as a possible treatment.

Particularly helpfull would be any SWIMMERs with direct experience of using GHB in the manner of treatment rather than recreational! Or any SWIMMERs who have researched the subject.

Many thanks in advance.

Love and Light xx

It says GHB is somewhat more effective than benzodiazepines.Swim wonders if this is true?

Re: GHB as a treatment for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism

The danger of GHB as a treatment for Heavy Alcoholism, is that there is a high(er) chance the SWIM will use GHB in conjunction with Alcohol, creating a very dangerous en lethal situation.

Re: GHB as a treatment for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism

Hy swimmers.
Well swim can talk about the experience with his labrats.
The rats were in vacations 6 months in Brazil where access to cocaine was very easy and cheap so use rised up very quikly from 0.5g/day to +/- 3/4g day.
Alcoolism had been present in this rats since 5/4 years ago and it continued in those 6months in that country.
Well meanwhile after that time labrats come back to Portugal where they started using G (a substance well known and enjoyed by the rats already)
Swim must report that the animals havn't even think about touch the coke again (1month clean) and the alcohol use it 's restricted to very small amouts compared to wath it used to be.
Helped a lot with the mental cravings, depression and the shakes from the leack of alcohol in their bodyes.
The rats are now starting to enjoy life again
Like swiKhantor said there is the chance of ending up mixing the 2 of them, so True!!! It happened to the rats, swim knows it 's extremely stupid and does not recomend it at all.

Re: GHB as a treatment for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism

That sounds like a very real and true & applicable story galakcius. SWIMM thinks this is how one should view GHB as a treatment for Polydrug / Alcoholism addiction.

Even though SWIMM was not addicted to alcohol, SWIMM drank quite heavily every evening/early-evening. SWIMM also smoked pot non-stop through the day. This all has fallen away since SWIM allowed himself to use GHB 8hrs/day.
SWIM doesnt drink anymore, hasnt touched alcohol in weeks. And weed SWIM smokes very sparingly, SWIM can do a month with 2grams now instead of 2 grams /day.
SWIM also experiences a great relieve on his Cash-reserves. And like SWIGAlak said, SWIM is enjoying life again.

Not advisable, whilst it undoubtedly has helped SWIY it is probably time to read up on GHB addiction/withdrawal and have a serious think about cutting down to evening use only.

Re: GHB as a treatment for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism

SWIM is very interested in this subject as a opiate addict and ex alcoholic it makes for very interesting reading... SWIMS intrigue also comes from an experience around 10 years ago when SWIM and a friend were spiked with GHB. Very weird experience, rather like being there but not, luckily SWIM and friend managed to get SWIMselves out of the situation and were safe at home before the full effects of the drug were felt.

SWIM is intrigued about the fact that GHB is present in alcohol naturally. SWIM would be very interested to know if using GHB for Polydrug Addiction and Alcoholism treatment could lead to addiction of the GHB itself? Is it not the effects of the GHB that are present in the alcohol that make it addicting?

SWIM could see a very low dose of GHB working in some cases, but only for a short while and only in extreme cases, where all else has failed and there are no other options, purely because of the risks involved in combining the alcohol and GHB together. In which case it could be proven to be a very successful treatment.
