Old Man Herbert, in the mill down the road way out in the country, was a very strange old man. He did strange things. Sometimes he'd tell the kids a story about strange things he has done. I heard this story many years ago. I'm not sure if it's true, but...
He used to make tea from pods. Now, as with all things, the variety and strengths and sizes varied wildly. However, it didn't stop him from trying things. One of his more recent experiments was with some crazy thing from the internets where he got his hands on some fairly mediocre pods. Anywhoo, he boiled `em up, (but never too hot!) and lemon juice a must for flavor, of course. After a not-too-long period, (say... ten minutes, maybe?) it was removed and strained through the insides of an old SWiM suit. Funny how that works. The milky remains? Imbibed. Weak, old man herbert reports. Fairly sad with it. The remains stayed in the "filter" for a few hours. Later that same night... he took the remains from the "filter"- they were nasty and compressed. VERY compressed- like a semi-moist tennis ball of grinds. It was taken and brewed AGAIN, same exact ball, yet THIS time the grinds seemed rather potent. How can this be? asks old Man Herbert. I told him, many years ago, that I didn't know. He was a strange one, that old man herbert. Maybe someone here has a friend of a friend that could explain this strange phenomenon? Thanks for your time. ![]() Stay safe! sig, fik, -=gf |

Re: Very Strange Papaver Somniferum POD revalation...
10 minutes was the problem. For full alkaloid absorption P.somniferum requires a slightly acidic water (which was present since lemon juice was also used) and anywhere from 30 mins to 3 hours of steeping in hot water of less than 80 degrees celsius. Temperatures of higher than 80 degrees celsius over a prolonged period destroys the morphine alkaloid. This is why in the majority of threads SWIyou will read it says never to "boil or bubble" the solution in question.
Because the PS material was already previously permeated with water before the second try the cell walls would have been softened and therefor made extraction easier. Hope this has been of help
