Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
A 21 year old man from Houthalen and a 22 year old man from Zonoven in Belgium have been exposed as drug dealers after they posted more than 2.000 posts on a Dutch internet forum about drugs. The police concluded from their post that the two sold XTC, GHB, amphetamine and cannabis.
Between 2005 and 2007 the two had been posting on the Dutch drugs forum regularly. Their posts where reason for a search warrant. The police raided the man in Houthalen (Belgium) and found evidence that the man produced GHB. On the mobile phone of the girlfriend of the man, the police found a movie clip showing the man snorting drugs in his appartment. A search in the home of the man in Zonoven yielded pure heroin. De self produced GHB was sold for €175 per 500 millilitre. The criminal court in Hasselt, Belgium sentenced the man from Houthalen today to 8 months in prison as parole and €5.500 fine. The man from Zonhoven was sentenced to 6 months in jail as parole and €5.500 fine. Source: Belga. Note: this has happened on another Dutch drug forum, that is not as strict as we are. Somewhat related: Last december, German police raided drogen-forum.de, the largest german drug forums, because of te illegal trade that was going on in their PM system. |

you know what that means, it means LE are all over our forum too.
I have recieved messages in the past that make me suspious, since I have never heard of the members. We just need to cautious on providing tek info , it could be conscrewed as unlawful. LE will use tricks to get members to unkowningly help them. |

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
Is anyone familiar with the legal status of providing guides to produce illicit drugs? If theres an issue then they should probably be put up on the shelf aside the sources forum.

AW: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
you guys know what i'd like to see? some kind of BB plug-in that anonymizes posts after a certain time, for instance 6 months, chaning the names of the authors to some standart name and deleting links from their profile (but obviously keep the # of posts that they posted)

Finally, I think that is exactly what some of the rules are for: Protect users from themselves. |

[QUOTE=silenius;389259]At least for me it is important to see who posted something. Sad but true: I filter by authors. The rating is one thing, but when I personally agree to the weltanschauung of user XY,QUOTE]
waz a weltanschauug? |

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
No it would not make any difference at all.
With both this case as with drogen-forum.de it involved members of those sites that where selling and distributing controlled substances. We do not allow that here and run an active policy against it. There is a reason that all so many other forums have run into trouble with the police while we have not. In the case of these two men on that Dutch internet forum, they must have posted things that were incriminating enough to get a court order and two search warrants for. I am trying to get more information about the court case and will let you know when I have this. |

AW: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
ok i was just a lil afraid since the law can make up many reasons for f-ing someone up, if you know what i mean. its all just a matter of interpretation (just as this swim thing, i think if s- really hits the fan it wouldnt really change too much, but thats just swims opinion)

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
The SWIM thing isn't a SWIM thing: no one says people need to use SWIM. We dont want self incrimination here. Asides from the issue that we do not allow trade here; As it looks now, the two men would not have been raided if they would not have incriminated themselves. It seems to me that it would be pretty bizare for a court to agree with a search warrant, because of wat someone's pink elephant has done in a dream.

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.Usually I don't like forums with strict rules but here for the most part these rules are for our own good and safety.

"because of te illegal trade that was going on in their PM system."
how did the police know what was being said in the PM system, did they tap into it or hack or somehow. |

maybe the police posed as an interested buyer and tricked them into entering a transaction.

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
This forums has it together more than any other I have seen.
Try using SWIM at other forums and they will laugh at you. Its sad really, it can never hurt to take that extra precautionary step. |

Re: Internet Forum posts lead to arrest drug dealers
How did they get the users info? I know all about IP tracing but that would require them to first get his IP, something that only the server should of logged. Unless they did something like sent him a image that was based upon their own server and thus recorded his IP when he tried to view the image.
Eitherway, sad news but not shocking. Honestly I think that stating "Swim" or "Friend" is a bit of a false hope since judges and peers are not robots and will know what you are really talking about. |
