Diphenhydramine and Ibuprofen (Advil)
As many of you who are reading this thread know, diphenhydramine is the deleriant antihistamine that is in Over-The-Counter drugs such as Benadryl, Nytol, etc. Recently certain OTC Drugs have been produced with diphenhydramine in them.
Note that SWIM uses diphenhydramine for recreational uses. Advil PM's Ingredients: Diphenhydramine Citrate 38 mg in each caplet Ibuprofen 200 mg in each caplet SWIM was hanging with some friends one night, and everyone was passing alcohol around. Later on, when everyone was coming down, and there was no more alcohol, people were tired and stuff. One of the people there pulled out Advil PM's. SWIM did not take them, but others did. Some took 4, others 6. Symptoms such as: bending objects, weird lines, blurred vision, and other hallucinations were occurring. The next day SWIM wanted to look into it. Ibuprofen is a NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) and is less able to cause liver-damage then other pain-killers. SWIM has read many reports of people taking high doses of this to help pain, and surviving. SWIM has also read reports of liver problems with long term use of high doses of this. And again SWIM has read reports of diphenhydramine causing stomach problems, vomiting, and itchiness. As a last resort I have come here to ask what is the recommended LIMIT of Ibuprofen to take to prevent this from happening again... SWIMs friend is complaining of severe stomach aches, itchiness and has been home for the past 2 days throwing up nothing. Anyone know anything? I realize that it would just be smarter to use Benadryl, or Nytol, but SWIM doesn't... unfortunatly. |

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
dude... is swiy seriously fiending so hard that he can't wait to buy a more pharmacologically pure product?
If swiy cant wait one day to trip (and on diphenhydramine none the less), swiy may have a problem. ps... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12737366 100 mg/kg |

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
SWIM would say that's pretty bad advice. Diphenhydramine is a drug just like any other, no reason to demean anyone for fiending for it. That said, SWIJoker has not said he is fiending so bad he can't wait, he is simply asking for some sound advice.
That said, either the 100 mg/kg measurement seems a bit off or the LD isn't much higher than the theurapeutic dose. SWIM only has personal experience to go from, but he has on several times taken 1-2 800 mg ibuprofen pills at once for the prescribed purpose. At the very least, SWIM guesses 4-6 of the advil pills is reasonably safe, though he's not sure how much further it would be wise to test it. |

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
my apologies... should have been more specific.
Toxicity begins to appear at 100 mg/kg. It gets bad (subjective... i know...) around 400 mg/kg I believe. |

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
I honestly believe SWIM is addicted... =\
I just told him I can't help him. SWIM is asking me for methods on how to extract it now. I am just going to tell him to take it to a professional. Thank you Dole and Metomni. |

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
If swim is going to use diphenhydramine fine just get something with no additives. They make alot of generic alternatives to benadryl. These can be found almost anywhere.

Re: Diphenhydramine and OTC Drugs
SWIM has used a generic brand, found at target, which has 100 pills per bottle and 25mg diphenhydramine per pill. SWIM uses for a fish and shellfish allergy but there are no inactives in these, it's just gelcapped diphenhydramine. Highly recommended.

Re: Diphenhydramine and Ibuprofen (Advil)
Well SWIM tried it and told me how it went =P
Around 12AM SWIM took 6 Advil PM's together with a bottle of water since SWIM knew that ibuprofen when taken at high amount can really wreck one's liver. 45 minutes pass and SWIM is feeling the Diphenhydramine lightly. As if it is just trying to make him pass out, no sort of hallucinations or anything, so SWIM popped 2 more and drank another bottle of water to be safe. Finally SWIM starts seeing black splotches appear in the corner of his eyes, small stuff like that. If SWIM stared at a wall or something, simple things would happen like the black splotches. Its 1:15 and SWIM is just feelin pretty tired, still having the slight hallucinations, but now he is feeling pain under his lower left rib cage, and into the center of chest. Slight pain though, like is SWIM were concentrated on a videogame or a movie he wouldn't notice. The pain sat there until about 2, then SWIM just went to sleep. Wasn't a good trip, in fact it wasn't good at all. SWIM would advise not to do this over and over again as Ibuprofen can cause severe liver problems in the long run. |
