Question regarding Red Phosphorus

Sorry about using such a vague thread title, but swim has a friend who shared with swim what he considers to be an easily obtainable source of acquiring small quantities of red p. Swims friend has even showed it to him and although swim has no experience with this substance; it's appearance is very similar to the red p that swim has read about and seen in pictures. Even when swim's friend explained where the red phosphorus could be obtained and the item in which a small vial of red p was included, it all seems relative and not far fetched.

However since swim never got to see the actual packaging, swim is not willing to take a chance without verifying that the vial which contains the red powder is actually red phosphorus. So swim wants to know what he can do to accurately test, identify, verify & confirm that the red clumpy powder is truly red phosphorus? And not anything that if combined, would ruin the other two ingredients in "the recipe", should swim ever want to try? Hopefully the answer isn't something totally obvious! Thanx for the help.
