memory loss and no motivation
I've been taking a lot of Methylphenidate non-recreationally for 3 days in a row. I've drunk a bunch of coffee too, and I had little sleep...
Today, I don't have to work anymore. But I feel totally weird. I have no clue what happened earlier today, where the hell I am. What the hell I've been doing... One hour ago I went downstairs to get some drink... I just remembered that, and I don't remember what I've been doing the last hour at all... I also have zero motivation to do something today (is this some kind of rebound effect of MPH?) Probably I need to gain some sleep, but I don't feel tired. I hope I'll be better in the morning. At the moment, I conjecture that my brain has been working too hard, and that it just needs some rest... Anyone encountered something similar? |

Re: memory loss and no motivation
Generally avoid caffeine with drugs like methylphenidate or amphetamine which block dopamine reuptake. Caffeine binds to and blocks adenosine receptors which increases dopmainergic activity.
Too much dopamine can lead to temporary psychosis not terribly unlike schizophrenia, and yes I would imagine would also lead to some sort of hangover as dopamine receptors lose sensitivity. |

Re: memory loss and no motivation
Sleep deprivation screws with brain function - that might explain the voids in short-term memory (e.g. not knowing how and why you got where you are). It is also usual to feel rebound effects from stimulants, especially after repeated dosing.

Re: memory loss and no motivation
Mmm, the weird thing is: I did not have this when I woke up this morning. Then I was just fine. I've been working to 3AM to finish a deadline though.
It's just the last couple of hours my brain seems to be so slow. I just had to take 5 minutes to figure out how I should take my laptop (which was lying on my desk) with me (to bed). I constantly forgot what I had to do... ![]() But since I still seem to be able to form proper sentences, I probably won't be screwed up that hard... ![]() I'm going to watch a movie and get some sleep. Hopefully everything is better in the morning. |

Re: memory loss and no motivation
Interesting to know. From experience I figured out that this combination is intense: that's why I combined those -- not supposing it would be unhealthy.

Re: memory loss and no motivation
SWIY should be fine, probably tomorrow, if not after another day or two. Realize SWIY just tricked the hell out of his brain with external chemicals, if that process went on for a bit his brain will adjust to it to stabilize. With the stimulus gone, SWIY take a surge in the opposite direction...

Re: memory loss and no motivation
Just to take a guess, sleep deprivation is SWIM's worst enemy. Even taking methylphenidate, if SWIM has not had a full nights sleep it will not prevent him from nodding off during class and such. I suppose if SWIM were to abuse it, he could avoid this, but in prescribed doses it certainly does not prevent SWIM from feeling the effects of lack of sleep... Basically, if SWIM has had no sleep or very little sleep, then the methylphenidate seems to have almost no effect at all.

Re: memory loss and no motivation
It's probably MOSTLY sleep deprivation. It's happened to us all who think we can go forever on MPH.
![]() MPH unlike amp's is not strong enough to combat sleep deprivation effectively, and neither is caffeine. All the poster accomplished is insomnia and built up a resistence to MPH. Plus dehydration, probably. And malnutrition. (MPH can slow digestion.) When this happens to swim he eats high protein food sources and takes calcium and vitamin C, but does not take b vitamins. Swim found that Kava Kava capsules from root standardized to 30% lend themselves to the most recooperative sleep after a MPH binge; four hours seems like eight, and swim is ready to go again. |
