5 years and no withdrawal???

Swim was just having a conversation with a family member about opiates and withdraw. Swims fam said they experience NO w/d after 5 yrs of everyday methadone and oxycodone intake!!!
Now this person told swim they cannot have withdraw because of there specific biological setup.. Swim believes this to be IMPOSSIBLE because of the effects opiates have on the physical body. As an example the sphincter is effected by opiates so discontinuation of such substances would cause the body to go into w/d.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: 5 years and no withdrawal???

Not impossible if they were taking low doses of course. Other then that, each individual has a different natural tolerance and ability to cope with such effects.

If neither is the case, it is common in rehab hospitals to administered a good amount of Benzos to people going through withdrawl, though SWIM has noticed his patients get little relief if they were regular H users.

Re: 5 years and no withdrawal???

SWIM would say impossible after 5 years of continued use even at lower medicinal dosages. Opiates and Opioids change the brains function of releasing certain endorphins, this would have almost certainly been effected. Opiates/oioids also effect the body physiologically after a certain amount of time, such as gastrointestinal movements etc.

The withdrawal symptoms however do not have to be severe and perhaps the person was not even looking for the right kind of thing. WD symptoms include a broad range of effects such as -

*mood swings
*restlessness
*muscle aches and pains
*loss of bowel and bladder control
*sweating
*shaking
*problems with body temperature regulation
*vomiting
*panic disorders
*phantom pain
*loss of appetite
*insomnia

The list goes on and on. After 5 years of continued use SWIM seriously doubts that SWIyour friend had not had at least one or two of these symptoms even at medicinal dosages.

If it was at medicinal dosages prescribed by a doctor then the doctor would have put him on a pain management plan.

The doctor Probably tapered him up so that analgesic effects were still effective for the duration of the treatment and then tapered him down so that hopefully minimal side effects were experienced when it was time to discontinue the medication.

Hope this has been of help
