Is it worth it?

Hi everyone, newbie here.

Im kate, currently studying youth work at leeds met uni. At this moment in time im writing my dissertation on "should ecstasy be legalised" which is well interesting. The main reason i joined today is becuase I need some views on a certain part of my work...

Is the experience you have on ecstasy worth the comedown and why, why would you take a pill for a few hours of pleasure which then turn into 2-4 days of depression....

Any of you who would answer that for me would be such a lifesaver!!!!!!! All things said will be kept anon 100%!!!

Re: Is it worth it?

ayup kate, welcome to the forum
swim doesn't suffer with days of depression.. sometimes don't suffer anything at all! The majority of the time it's just usually a day in bed and swim is alright. So taking one day into consideration, swim thinks it's well worth the experience!
the thing with pills, swim\y is pretty much guaranteed a good time, that's why it's prob the best drug around! People feel so much happier with everyone else and in general, so much that violence\crime doesn't enter people's minds..
If pills were legalised then they'd be sold in clubs like previously and people would possibly stop drinking alcohol (or as much (yes, the alcohol death-rate is far higher than ecstasy)) therefore making illegal-ecstasy safer than legal-alcohol, fact.
I watched a documentary on drugs. They ranked various drugs on a scale of 1-20 of how dangerous they are, 1 being heroin (most dangerous), 20 being khat (least dangerous), ecstasy was ranked 19.
The governments research into ecstasy is all ancient history and they thought people were dying because of ecstasy directly, but they were wrong. As soon as deaths were discovered whilst ecstasy was in use, the government slapped an instant ban on it. Newer research now shows that it's very difficult, if not impossible to die\overdose from esctasy.
so go get it legalised girl.....cheers

Re: Is it worth it?

'Yes, sometime I get a come down but it's only a mild one for the next day. Why is is worth it? Because, I suppose it's all about that moment when you first come up and the euphoria hits in waves, you're exactly where you want to be and you're comfortable with everything and everyone. Whenever I roll with my friends I always plan it out and look forward to it, it's always relaxed and meaningful. It's worth suffering a little for 24 hours to just get a blissfull 4 with the people you love and trust.'

Thanks Bill, you naughty monkey, you.

Re: Is it worth it?

The first time swim took it, he actually felt pretty good after, and the morning after too. It gets progressively worse, and now swim can feel a bit... "relaxed", maybe even "low" the next day, but nowhere near 2-4 days of actual depression; that would only maybe come after a long long time of heavy abuse - if swiy spaces it out enough, they would be fine.

I think the documentary you mention is the BBC Horizon programme. This was based on a paper is called "Development of a rational scale to assess the harm of drugs of potential misuse", which is available here: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/loc...=1561&catid=15

The paper is well worth a read if you are planning to cover the "harm" aspect.

Re: Is it worth it?

There is a way you can escape that depression you´re mentioning. It´s called "weed" ever heard of it? Swim says he always tap that girl when he gets to the comedown.

so, to summerise: Hell yea it´s worth it!

Re: Is it worth it?

Swim can understand where you're coming from he supposes, but doesn't really see where the issue is. Swim is coming down off some pretty heavy drugs right now, hates life, head hurts, bruised and battered arms, and can't sleep (swim isn't a heavy user, but when he does he somehow ends up always going for the hard stuff), but just treats it as part of the experience. It's just like alcohol. Does one never drink for fear of a hangover? (And swim gets horrible, horrible hangovers). You can have a painless life eating modestly and healthily, never doing drugs or smoking if you like... Swim's going to go drink till he can't see straight and then take copious amounts of coke or speed or something, because it feels great. Tomorrow is tomorrow, and it's not a deterrent in the same way that capital punishment doesn't seem to deter murderers.

SWIM finds an MDMA comedown to be much more bearable than an alcohol Hangover. Mild depression and fragility beat the shit out of headaches and sickness.

although SWIM has noticed a marked decline in quality over the last few years

During Swim's first few years of MDMA use, he never found the comedown or post-use-blues to be particularly bad at all

Though as the years wore on and he found himself using larger amounts and more frequently, he found that both the comedown and the post-use-blues became much worse

The majority of drugs have some unpleasant after effects, so I guess this question could be asked of all drug users rather than just those who partake of MDMA. Why would somebody ingest alcohol when they knew that it would make them feel bad the next morning? I believe the answer to this is that many people prefer to live in the moment

Re: Is it worth it?

I think that the question is also specific to the people using MDMA.. it is a very "in the moment" type drug.. therefore the people taking it are less inclined to worry about tommorow.

Also it's not the kind of drug you could do every weekend (it takes at least a couple of weeks for your brain to fully recharge), so most people break it out on special occasions (a big rave, a friends birthday party, etc)

When used in the right time and place it can be the best drug in the world, you have to treat it with respect, but a day of sleeping/coming down is worth the incredible feelings you get when you're rolling.

=)

Swim has never really had a bad comedown after rolling. Nothing like coming down from coke. To swim it just slowly wears off and a "foggy" feeling persists the next day. Nothing to write home about. Its definetly well worth the high unlike some other substances*coughcokecough*.

Smile Re: Is it worth it?

quantify what worth is to someone and you have your answer.

is having the most awesome parties and opening totally new avenues of music, people and culture to an otherwise standard working life worth it?

your goddamn right it is, said my mate SWIM.

SWIM met some many "new friends" as he calls it, the moment when SWIM meet randoms SWIM'd otherwise never meet, from all walks of life, some of whom are now close friends. It's about shared experiences and good times!

SWIM is realistic, he knows its for living here and now and one day SWIM will have responsibilities and he cant stay out all night partying with his friends, but for now? SWIM lives for the moment

Re: Is it worth it?

The comedown can be minimised and mostly avoided by the right knowledge about harm reduction. The media's obsession with not wanting to inform anybody about the facts and, instead, saying things like telling "the kids" to drink loads of water or they would die resulted in Leah Bett's death. She died of ignorance, not mdma.

Oh and please point out the huge difference between MDMA and Ecstacy. One being a relatively harmless substance, the other being a street product that could contain anywhere from 0-100% MDMA or anything else for that matter, but that's prohibition for you.

Stick that in your report and smoke it.

Re: Is it worth it?

I dont suffer depression.. and if i do its because im already depressed :P

Atm iv been depressed because of lack of direction, which was making me reluctant to take pills for a while.. but i did anyway and i felt fine two weeks in a row with a high dose.

The first time i done pills was the only time i had a noticeable comedown.

Unlike booze, on pills i can be serious and snap outa "it" at any point if need be.

Like most drugs extacy should be legalised. People are gonna take it regardless, atleast if its legalised people will be more informed.. and are less likly to get dodgy pills.
