Question Using Concerta to study

SWIM has recently gained access to 32 mg Concerta pills, which is great because SWIM has a really hard time sitting down and writing her term papers.

SWIM was advised that Concerta may keep one up for several hours, so she took one early in the day. However, she hadn't had a great amount of sleep the night before, and she ended up taking a nap about an hour after her first dose. After a light sleep, she still didn't feel very good at concentrating, so she took another dose (both were taken orally, as-is without busting up the pill), and shortly thereafter, drank a can of Red Rain, which is essentially the same thing as RedBull, to keep herself awake.

SWIM found that her concentration was about as bad as ever, but her heart was not very impressed and started racing/pounding a bit. She felt pretty jittery and restless too, a bit like a mild caffeine overdose.
It was not terribly conductive to getting her term paper written, and not really a pleasant feeling, either.

Any other SWIMmers out there who have used a slow-release form of methylphenidate to improve concentration for a short (few hours) period? Would SWIM have more success if she altered the pill (or dosage) before consuming it? She isn't particularly interested in getting high or feeling good, she just wants to get her damned term papers out of the way.

Re: Using Concerta to study

Swim has always used ritalin to study since university. Swim has found it to be very helpful for term papers and Swim is also a math major and finds it very easy to study after snorting ritalin. Swim has recently gotten a prescription for 36mg of concerta. When taken orally, swim found the effects to be fine for every day life like conversing with friends and paying attention in class, but swim found the best results to occur after grinding the concerta up in a coffee grinder and mixing with water. This gets rid of the time release on the pill, and allows one to get a more concentrated rush faster than not crushing up the pill. Of course there will be a few side effects. Be careful, and from what swim has heard, do not snort it.

Re: Using Concerta to study

Thanks.

SWIM has recently discovered sucking off the outer coating, then biting the pill in half. She peels off the waxy/plasticy stuff and puts the yellow & white part under her tongue to dissolve, and throws away the brown part. Apparently it works pretty well, none of the mess of snorting and she doesn't have to worry about what is in her stomach - she got the idea from me, since I have a prescription for migraine medication which is meant to dissolve under the tongue for faster absorption.
She says it tastes pretty bad, but still not too bad if left under the tongue. Has a slight anesthetizing effect, but not as bad as the topical anesthetic you might get at the dentist, for example. Also, the "wrapper" is a bitch to peel off if you get it wet.
