cremation or burial?

I am going back to my hometown in a few weeks and have family there. My father died in 1996 here in Cal. I am taking his ashes to my older sister, and I have business to tend to.

my sister has been talking to me and how she realy is going to feel being able to remember and so and and so forth, having his remains near her. Not unlike visiting a grave.

So my question is { no poll ) how do you feel about the subject? ashes or tomb? mobile or inmobile ?

Re: cremation or burial?

I want my body to be freeze dried powdered and used as plant fertilizer for a mimosa hostilis tree, that way the plant would uptake my nutriants and my body would become a precurser for DMT/go on living in the form of a plant.

Que Mr.G's Anti hippie coment in 1,2,3...

lol, fnord the next spirit of the mimosa tree. much like the spirit of the iboga and psychotria viridis, never thought of that.I also like the idea of cremation and scattered ashes. burial seems so claustrophobic. But the egyptians did i guess so it cant be that bad.

Re: cremation or burial?

Regular burial has a lot of flaws - I know I wouldn't want to be buried as is.
I'd like to be cremated for sure, have my ashes spread somewhere really peaceful, beautiful and tranquil. Somewhere that has a high personal value.

Re: cremation or burial?

1st let the doc's take what ever shit they want from me , if even one more human can live a bit longer or better as a result of my death then it will be the best gift i have ever given and i think its the most selfish thing somone can do to withhold bodyparts after death ( cos bro you really wont be needing it again )

after that burn what ever is left , its up to who ever i leave behind to decide what to do with my ashes , maybe if i think of a cool place to scatter them i will ask for this but right now i know of no such place

It's a nice thought, but if swiy has ever been an IV drug user, the docs will not use any parts. they dont want to risk Hep C or HIV being giving to the recipient.

Re: cremation or burial?

read an article kinda about this; from an environmental/love-of-the-earth/wise perspective (call it what you will) the best thing to have done is whats known as a green burial - basically you're buried as you are with no body preservative or any chemical shit they might use, in a biodegradable coffin, and rather than a headstone or whatever you can get a tree planted to mark where your body is (or used to be as soon as it gets decomposing ).

its infinitely more eco-friendly than a standard burial, or indeed a cremation which actually releases quite an amount of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. plus the earth gets all your yummy nutrients. i always felt to be cremated and have my ashes scattered off a mountain or summin but now i really like this idea. a plant marking ur death would be brilliant, itd be nice to have somethin people could benefit from as well (swim says "perhaps an apple tree/ ganja plant/ peyote cactus or summin")

standardly a bit of organ donation first as well

Re: cremation or burial?

I'm partly with Masa on this one. Let them take whatever may be of use to others and after that I really could not care less (after all I won't exactly be there in any form to see it).

I suppose it partly depends upon what you believe in terms of an afterlife (or not).

As an alternative, why not let Doctor Gunter Von Hagens do his worst (or best depending on your point of view) and exhibit your fleshy form for all to marvel at?

Plastination for the nation.

Re: cremation or burial?

Id sell my organs so the people i left behind could afford to do this. id then wanna be shipped out to sea on a wooden ship painted psychedelic colours with psychedelic sails and set alight. Where the ship (or I) sinks will be an obelisk shaped tombstone rising from the seabed where i lay.
If swims organs r too fucked to sell from all the extended drug use (which they probly already are) then i will donate them to a lab for drug testing. if swim dont die of liver failure then that should really destroy it

For myself? Well, I'll be dead at the time, so I'm not really sure I'll care.

These things are for the living loved ones, so they can do what they wish, IMO.

My thoughts completely, remind me of the time a burial insurance salesman called about buying insurance. Don't need it, I be dead at the time.

Re: cremation or burial?

Swim's a believer in reincarnation. After swim ( this body ) dies, swim's not going to have any use for this body and therefore, swim doesn't see any point in putting it into a wooden box and lower it six feet under the ground. Swim would rather have it cremated, disintegrated, and let the ashes be carried by father wind wherever he pleases. And, its more hygenic too. Besides, it reduces chances of possession??

Those not understanding, are welcome to ask swim questions pertaining to his beliefs on personal experience!!

Re: cremation or burial?

cheaper than a burial

more importantly (depending on your perspective), it allows your final resting place to be pretty much anywhere in the world you want....you could have your ashes sprinkled over the ocean you played at as a child, or in a country you wanted to visit or loved to visit, or off the top of everest or something...i guess its a bit more romantic than spending an insane amount of money to stick someone in the ground.

cremation would be option #2 for me if donating my body scientific research didnt work out.
