Tolerance already??

let me start by saying that SWIM has been prescribed adderall for about 4 or 5 months now. His script was for 3 20mg IR's a day. Usually he'd burn through them before the month was up by binging a few times. Recently he got his script changed to the same dosage, but in XR. actually he got the XR script in addition to the IR one...

So last weekend, SWIM starts a mild binge. Don't know how much he took altogether...but it was a lot. the binge lasted until late monday night/early tuesday morning.... at that point it was harder to feel the effects, had to take a lot more. even then there was no euphoria, just energy.

swim took the next day off completely. Now he tried some again this morning for school work.... 2 20mg XR and a 20mg IR...felt almost nothing, except a bad headache. Later the same day, came home ate a small lunch and drank some baking soda/water. hour later popped 2 20mg XR, not really feeling it an hour later.

it used to be that 2 20mg XR's would have SWIM high as shit, focused.

could that last long binge have increased his tolerance that much, that fast? Or did he just burn out whatever neurotransmitters or whatever (seratonin, dopamine, etc) are responsible for adderall doing what it does? If that's the case what can SWIM do to replenish himself?

Re: Tolerance already??

The first high one gets is almost the most powerfull one.Tollerance develops quite quickly, the more one takes at one time, the more and faster it skyrockets.Swim has had the same problem but only with amphetamine sulphate powder(is in fact the same thing only snorted and doesn't work time released). His bunny in it's bad days had to get up to 300mg to even get to a party(bout 2gs of 15-20% pure sulphate)sometimes ending up with 5gs a day of that stuff in his nose sadly. This hapend over the time of several months so it can be friggin quick...Someone the bunny knows then took to much and had permanent brain damage so he then decided to quit some time. Then he learned about the decreasing of dopamine sensitivity in a mans brain because of abuse.Swiy should read that too on wikipedia or use the search engine, there's lots on the subject. The golden rule on stimulants is simple, the higher you fly the deeper you fall and Swiy doesn't want it to become a habit.Stick to mild binges and take time to fully recover afterwards.Swim and his bunny hope that this was off help, sure there will be many other answers coming soon.
Grtz and good luck

Re: Tolerance already??

As mentioned, the first time taking Adderall will probably be the most euphoric, if only because of the excitement of a new sensation. The first time SWIM took Adderall he took a 30mg XR and it hit him like a ton of bricks. He had taken it in an attempt to study calculus all night and he never found math so much fun before. Since then, he's never been able to get Adderall to make work that interesting and as captivating as it was the first time. SWIM has a prescription to 20mg IR three times a day now, and taking a single 20mg pill hardly has any noticeable effect, except for the fact that if SWIM is motivated to get to work he'll remain on task. He's also gone long spans without taking his prescription and tried a 20mg dose again and the change in tolerance was negligible. So to answer the original question, yes Adderall tolerance builds quickly.

Re: Tolerance already??

It truly is sucky how quickly tolerance develops. SWIM has tried many various ways tp reduce it, but not much luck...However, taking tums an hour or so beforehand is definitely beneficial. And try not to take them more than 3 days in a row. That has benefited SWIM to some extent.

Re: Tolerance already??

Will SWIM doesn`t get them prescribe to him but he gets the from a friend every month and SWIM is fairly new to adderall. He used to do meth and other stuff. But what i notice with any upper is if SWIM take a couple days rest from them and start doing downers for a while. When he goes back to the uppers again its like the first time. Dont know if it works for every one but it helps SWIM. Plus SWIM likes a variety of drugs. Uppers downers sidewaders ECT ECT. So if SWIY like downers to when he gets a couple days free from work smoke some pot of some xanax or something for a couple of days then take a adderall or two. It make a big difference.

Re: Tolerance already??

Studies have also suggested the dopaminergic areas pertaining to euphoria and recreational effects develop tolerance much more quickly than the dopaminergic areas which control attention and ADD-related symptoms. This means the recereational effects grow to not come to a user while still providing therapeutic benefit.

Great point. That's good news for those who use it for therapeutic purposes. I have read the same statement made by other people elsewhere on the Internet.

Re: Tolerance already??

Jazzmetalguitar is definitely correct. Every doctor I have spoken to about Adderall has said that the euphoria and rush will go away once you get settled into a daily treatment, but that doesn't mean the Adderall has stopped working. Since I take Adderall therapeutically I never take more than I need to be able to do my work. If I want euphoria I look elsewhere. If you're going to use Adderall long term don't expect it to be a great recreational drug as long as you use it. Tolerance increases so quickly (to euphoria) that it would be simply dangerous to continue long-term recreational use indefinitely.
