Brian Taylor, 36, has also been banned from every Asda store after being caught cutting fuel pump pipes.

Cleveland Police and Redcar and Cleveland Council applied for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order which was granted at Teesside Magistrates' Court.

Police say they are now working with other agencies to try and help him.

Sgt Bryan Tams said: "He has indicated that he wants to try and stop this sort of behaviour and we are doing all we can to assist him with that."

Carrying petrol

Taylor terrorised supermarket staff and customers after sniffing petrol and cutting pipes at Asda in the South Bank area and dancing around the forecourt.

Teesside Magistrates' Court, which granted the Asbo, heard customers had been soaked in petrol.

Taylor, of no fixed address, was also banned from carrying petrol in a public place for the duration of the four-year order.

Mr Tams said: "We are making moves to try and stop him going to that location but at the same time we wouldn't want to move him on to another location so the Asbo does say that he doesn't attend any petrol forecourts within Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough."

He said he and his colleagues in the community safety department had been speaking to the drugs action team to try and help.
