hydromorphone and alcohol

Swim is wondering when it is safe to drink alcohol after a (non time-release, oral) 4 mg dose of hydromorphone. Swim doesn't regularly drink alcohol, but tonight will be a special occasion. Swim may be drinking semi-heavily so he wants to make completely sure that he's not putting himself at harm. Swim was thinking 4-6 hours, as that is how long many descriptions of hydromorphone list the duration. However, swim often feels the subtle effects of a hydromorphone up to 12-15 hours after a dose. Swim's not even sure how bad it is in the first place to mix alcohol with the opiate (as there is no filler, *i think*), but would like for some of the seasoned experts to donate their 2 cents.

Although mixing the two is almost always a bad idea, 4mg of hydromorphone is not a very large dose. Swim would say the best is to be safe, and if you really want to mix the two, do so slowly over time and check your reactions. Swim has seen too many people become very ill from mixing downers.

Swim used to drink heavily and mix large amounts of opiates at heaviest probably around 8 beers and 30 mg Hydrocodone or 40 mg oxycodone and never experiences anything bad. Swim does notice that when he drinks on opiates it takes less alcohol to get him really drunk. But you should be more then fine especially if its not a regular thing. Swim actually has taken a 4 mg Hydromorphone while drinking a 40 oz a year or so ago and swim doesnt remember any bad effects
