Codeine in Canada

hey, swim went to the pharmacy today and didn't find anything with codeine in it. He has heard from ppl that codeine is easily obtained combined with other substances (paracetamol, caffeine, etc.) without a prescription. He is wondering if this is true and what the brands are.

In Canada one can purchase various brands of tylenol with codeine (300 mg acetaminophen, 15 mg caffeine, 8 mg codeine) without a prescription, but it is not on the counters. SWIY would have to go to the pharmacist and ask for it.

SWIY can ask for Mersyndol (325mg paracet; 8mg codein; 5mg doxylamine). They sell it in 24 pills box or in bottles of 100. This is the prefered choice of SWIM as they do not contain caffeine, but doxylamine wich is a sedative. CWE is easyly performed on these (assuming that you have equipment for vaccum filtration). This is what SWIM takes when he realy wants opiates but can't find Dilaudid or smack.

is the CWE procedure the same as T1 or other pills with caffeine??
Is the vacuum filtration essential? since the normal CWE does not require it.

Well, it is the same process as for Tylenol 1... but vaccum filtration yeilds less paracetamol and more solubles in the final product and the process of filtration takes only 5 minutes. The final product should also contain a large quantity of doxylamine, but it has never been harmful for SWIM even if he took 35 pills each evening for about 2 weeks. SWIY should start with small doses to see how he reacts to doxylamine. Also, search for info about doxyl : its important to know what you're taking.

Does SWIY know if it is at all possible to get any Codeine products in the U.S. (w/o a Script) ?

no except for a few states. (I think Virginia is one of them)

I wouldn't think so, since codeine is scheduled. And scheduled medications require a prescription in the US. But back on topic - codeine in Canada.

I have researched on this and it is a sleeping-aid, therefore doesn't it make SWIY extremely drowsy at high doses and make SWIY go to sleep??

35 pills=175mg doxylamine, thats a lot and since SWIM has never taken any anihistamines in his life, and his tolerance worries him since his usual dose is 200mg-325mg of codeine (125mg-205mg doxylamine).
He understands that it potentiates the codeine (especially in the absence of caffeine), but is wondering what the od dosage would be for a 180 lbs, 6'0 guy and the dose that would make SWIM pass out?
And just read up on a antihistamine hangover???

Well, there is no real hangover for doxylamine... however, it could make you feel sleepy in the morning if you took it on the evening. A standard high dose to induce sleep is
50mg but 100mg should still be safe thought.

Swim would be careful with Doxylamine + Codeine. If SWIM recalls correctly, Doxylamine is said to have a greater sedating effect then Phenobarbital. Mixing Opiates with any downer is dangerous. Just make sure SWIY is careful.

But SWIM will say he has taken 225mg of Doxylamine to sleep and woke up just fine. THe only unpleasant thing to SWIM is the dry mouth. Use Caution!

SWIM has never tried opiates before but has been trying to find hydro or oxy in the last couple weeks with no luck. SWIM is from Canada and also checked the pharmacy for anything containing codeine and had no luck.

SWIM's advice is to just ask the pharmacist and she'll definitely give SWIY a bottle for a relatively cheap price. Ask for Tylenol 1.
Do CWE once SWIY gets it.

First of all, which stores in Canada has Swiy gone to and successfully bought Mersyndol or T 1's? Also when you ask for these medications is it typical for the pharmacist to ask any questions about why it is you would need a 100 bottle of Mersyndol or tylenol? Lastly could someone give an approximate $ of how much these would be?

Swim has gone to Shoppers Drug Mart and gotten it. you do not need a perscription. you just go to the pharmacy counter and ask for acetaminophen with codeine. the pharmacist has never asked any questions about why Swim was using it, they just ask what size bottle you would like. Swim has gotten the tylenol brand and the life brand before. they pretty much have the exact same ingredients in them; 300mg acetaminophen, 15mg caffeine and 8mg codeine. the life brand is a bit cheaper though. if Swim recalls correctly, a 30 caplet bottle of this was around $5.00... but Swim has private health care insurance on file at that store, so Swim's not sure if the medication was partially covered or not. Swim doubts it was covered though. the 30 caplet bottle was the smallest size, there was at least 2 larger sizes available too. Swim is pretty sure the next size up is 60, but forgets what the bigger bottle contained, Swim guesses 90 or 120.

Swim uses this because they find regular strength tylenol isnt enough. if you do get questioned about usage (which Swim doubts), Swim thinks this is a good enough excuse.

Anyways, SWIM suggests getting the 200 pill bottle and you save much more money then if you get the smaller ones. It is the biggest size SWIY can get.
