Snorting Focalin XR

SWIM is prescribed dexmethyphenidate in time release capsules, and her and her friends like to crush the little beads, believing that it possibly gets rid of the time release coating leading to a faster harder buzz. Many people claim this is false and that the time release is in the chemistry, not the bead coating, could anyone clarify for SWIM?

Focalin XR makes use of Elan's SODAS (Spheroidal Oral Drug Absorption System) for its extended release properties.

SODAS works by coating a core w/ drug, then controlled release polymers. Once these dissolve, it allows the drug itself to dissolve.

So, as far as defeated the time release is concerned, crushing almost always defeats at least some of the time release mechanism. The only variable is how solidly secured between the core and polymers that the drug is. Even so, breaking something with three layers usually allows at least some access to the center layer.

In a nut shell, it definitely helps, but it may not completely break the time release.

This is probably just Swim's mind playing a trick on him, but today Swim snorted four 5mg generic dexmethylphenadate tablets today and
for some odd reason he found it far better than the focalin XR. Not sure why? Maybe something to do with those beads in XR? Swim is a bit of a noob with this stuff.

Swim found out why the generic worked better. It wasn't because it was generic, it's because it was IR (immediate release). Swim will try to look at the bottle more carefully for now on. ^^

my friend swim has the generic 5mg focalins and he said that hes going to this party tonight where hes gonna be drinking and he was wondering if snorting 2-4 (not sure how much) throughout the night of those 5mg (non time release) would be a worthwile thing to do???
