Summer Festivals (US)-- 10KLF, ROO, ROTH, etc., etc.,0
10,000 lakes was a solid festival for awhile, but I think it's going downhill now-- Phil is headlining (again, he was headlining just two years ago); last time he encored with Truckin'-- what a crock of dick. No, I don't want to hear Truckin'. Flaming Lips are cool, and I'd watch the show if I went to 10klf, but the scene is too indie/hipster for me. I'm really glad Panjea is getting attention (and Cornmeal), but aside from that, I'm largely unimpressed with the lineup (even though it is dead-heavy, I'd rather see Bobby than Phil and DSO rarely plays the shows I want to hear).
Rothbury looks solid. WSP, Phil, Primus, STS9, Biscuits, Mickey Hart, Taj Mahal, Greyboy Allstars, Railroad Earth, Emmitt/Nershi, EOTO, Panjea (w/ Kang), Greensky Bluesgrass, and more. But a ticket is about $250, way too expensive for a single festival, imo. Everyone from Cheese will be there but Hollingsworth.
Dunegrass was solid last year, and it's looking good so far. It seems like a very vibing festival-- a lot of good grass and up-and-coming jam. Telluride looks bomb again. Bonnaroo looks weak again (imo has been since like 03/04), too many shows I'm paying for that I don't give a shit to see.
You guys going to festivals? Got any small ones to recommend?
