sleeping...
just wondering what others do to help them sleep. SWIM is on adderall XR and has the problem of falling asleep. but once she does, she stays asleep. but it is incredibly difficult to just fall asleep and she can't until 6am sometimes.
she doesn't want to have to take diphenhydramine or a prescription every night. the only thing that has helped her sleep at night besides meds was really good sex . but she isn't lucky enough to have that every night. so... wondering what others do?

Re: sleeping...
My bunny has had sleep problems for a long time. She has taken perscribed meds and smoked A LITTLE pot to relax and get rest.
Recently she has started self hypnosis to go a little further than meditation. The has made a huge difference!! |

Re: sleeping...
I highly recommend diphenhydramine and/or clonazepam as I am instructed by a doctor to take both, but if you want to avoid pharmaceuticals there are other remedies that can make you sleepy. As mentioned, a little marijuana is good to calm the nerves but too much can make it hard to sleep. You can also take 5-HTP which you can buy at any CVS, which is the chemical tryptophan and will make you tired the same way turkey makes you tired. Melatonin can help with sleep as well. Finally, there are different teas out there that have herbs in them that make you tired when you brew and drink them, you may want to look into those. Hope this helps.

Re: sleeping...
My penguin insists 2-3 bowls 30 minutes before bed puts him out like none other.
SWIM has also experienced that a small amount of alcohol does the trick rather well. Usually an equivalent amount to if one was trying to get slightly tipsy is all it takes. Ambient music works well. As do scents and massages. |

Re: sleeping...
SWIM smokes a bowl or two right before bed as well. Also he will try clearing his mind entirely and taking slow, controlled, deep breaths. Meditation is another big helper. There are lots of good meditation guides available as free podcasts on iTunes. SWIM suggests Wynyfryd's Meditation Room podcasts.

Re: sleeping...
It's already been stated in this thread, but I'll say it again for emphasis--the only real, long-term solution to this problem is to take SWIY's meds earlier so that they wear off by bed time. If this doesn't work, then SWIY's dosage is likely too high, and should be adjusted accordingly.
However...SWIM understands that getting on a regular schedule with adderall and potentially having to lower one's dosage is easier said than done. It this is the case, SWIY will probably have to develop some type of "sleep-cocktail" of various foods, beverages and medications that allow SWIY to have an easy, peaseful sleep. As mentioned before, melatonin is a great option for someone who wants help sleeping and does not want to feel drowsy in the morning, but does not want to resort to any habit-forming medication (melatonin is completely non-addictive). However, melatonin is not very "powerful," persay, and many users claim that it has no effect at all on their sleep. Perhaps you could try SWIM's current approach. SWIM has come to the realization that he will never have his adderall dose completely regulated and taken as early as it should be every single day, so he devised a compromise between the "taking as instructed" and "sleep medication" approaches. On some days, when SWIM feels like he needs the extra amph boost when its already pretty late in the day, he will go ahead and indulge. On these nights, he will take a benzo like clonazepam or a hypnotic like zolpidem and drink a little Kava tea to put him out and get him some great sleep. So as not to become dependent/physically addicted to these medications, SWIM will compromise and only dose early in the morning on days when the extra focus and energy is not so desperately needed. This has been his strategy for a year now, and he has developed no noticeable tolerance or chemical dependence to clonazepam or zolpidem and has gotten decent sleep for a tweaker. |

Re: sleeping...
Lucid dreaming techniques helped SWIM start sleeping a bit better after suffering for years of horrible insomnia....the lucid dreaming usually fails but he'll fall to bed about 3 hours earlier.
