Questions after starting on Adderall

Swim saw his doctor about two weeks ago and decided to ask her about trying out a med for ADHD and was perscribed 40mg XR. Swim has had prior experiance with meds like this, having taken various doses of concerta from 7th grade until halfway through 10th grade (leveling out at 92 mg per day), when he decided to try without it, not wanting to be dependant on it to get his work done. Now a Jr, Swim has been taking the prescribed dose of adderall 7 days a week, in the morning, for two weeks. He has experianced the common weight loss, about 14 pounds. initially weighing 220lbs, he wasnt upset about this side effect, so hasnt worried. Swims mom noticed that his breath smelled like acitone, and said it was probably from dehydration. not quite sure about that considering swim drinks about 7 bottles of water every day so Swim would apreiciate any feedback. also, swim is having heavy sweating under his arms and is wondering if there is anything that could help curb that. he has been experiancing insomnia since begining this med. this is strange because swim constantly wants to take a nap regardless of where he is, but just "doesnt feel like it" Swim smokes cannibis on a regular basis, and has noticed his insomnia completely goes away nights he smokes, and can make himself eat some food. this is nice considering the first three days of taking this, he slept mabye 4 hours, ate nothing, and felt mildy depressed. swim has recently felt less and less motivated to interact socially, mostly wanting to get the job done, and only willing to talk if it is something that intrests him. he has also been told by his teachers that he has been acting much less tolerant, and criticizes his peers more often than normal.
on the positive side swim has been producing fantasitic quality work at school, and has been helping out more around the house. if anyone has any thoughts, reccomendations, or methods that could help any of the negative effects, let Swim know

The side-effects SWIY listed are all indicative of Adderall. If using Adderall therapeutically and taking regular doses is how SWIY uses it, these side-effects should diminish over time. If they don't then perhaps the dose is too high or you just need another ADHD medication. SWIM has a prescription to Adderall as well, he takes 20mg IR three times a day, and has many of the symptoms you describe. I do notice that SWIM's breath does get pretty bad now that you mention it, but its never really bothered me since I usually clean my mouth with Listirine whenever I go out. SWIM also used to sweat a lot on Adderall but that has pretty much stopped unless SWIM takes a higher than normal dose.

Insomnia is a huge problem for SWIM, but the benefits he gets from taking Adderall far outweighs the consequences considering his workload being a Junior in college. Diphenhydramine (brand name Benadryl) is a good OTC sleep medication and it is also a muscle relaxant which should help calm you down. The reason SWIM finds he can't sleep on Adderall is because his mind is racing even if his body is tired, and Diphenhydramine does a good job of making him completely tired. He takes 100mg of diphenhydramine about an hour before he wants to go to bed and that usually works well. He also has a prescription to Clonazepam which is a benzodiazepine and helps calm down his anxiety that might prevent him from sleeping. SWIY might want to explore one or both of these options for sleep if Adderall is working effectively for ADHD. If it isn't anything great for ADHD then SWIY should probably try a new medication.

Swim has also had experiances with DXM, and is completely positive that he lacks the enzyme that makes such drugs, including benadryl, much more potent. he cant even take a medicinal dose without trippping. also, swims brother was recently caught by his parents high on DXM and Benaryl, so it is somwhat hard to comeby in their house. are there any other methods to deal with the insomnia? Swim did a little research and heard that cannabis use diminishes the effectiveness of adderall, and rapily increases tolerances to both substances. while he isnt sure if it is true or not, he would appreciate any alternatives available.

Diphenhydramine and DXM are two totally different medications. Diphenhydramine comes by itself in most OTC sleep aids, including store brands like CVS. It is possible to trip on diphenhydramine but it requires at least 400mg and the trip, from what I hear, is never enjoyable. I usually take 100mg to go to bed as I mentioned, and I don't trip or anything.

that is nice for swiy but like swim said, there are many drugs, ranging from ecstacy, morhpine, benadryl, dxm, etc, that have a much stronger effect on people who lack this enzyme, without it, our bodies dont break down the various chemicals in these drugs, which can be very dangerous, and again, a standard dose is enough to get swim VERY high, when swiy tried a single E pill, he was rolling for 12 hours, and didnt care that his mother and her friend were watching him jump in teh pool with all his cloths on in the middle of dinner, or that he considered a certain tuft of grass to be the softest thing he had ever felt. he took 3 35 mg ccc pills and thoguht a pillow was his cat for three hours, and had a full on conversation with a floating head in his closet for another 2. he also has to carry a medical information card in his wallet so he isnt given too much morphine for example, if he were in a car accident or whatever. so swim thinks he might just have to find another medication if the insomnia doesnt go away soon, becasue it is getting harder and harder for him to keep from spacing out in school.

swim has also tripped heavily after taking 4 benadryls after a horse ride with his girlfriend, apparently he is alergic. he was so stoned, he couldnt figure out how he got from her house to the local italian resteraunt, or why she kept switching places with her sister every few minutes, this is disturdbing because she is an only child, and swim never left her house. swim was very lucky her parents worked at a rehab clinic, or they might have gotten angry for accidently getting so high at their house.

Weird because swim is in the same position. I take 40mgs xr at about 7 in the morning, it kicks in around 8ish and then by 10ish swim fiends for a cigarette (swim normally only smokes jacks when he's drunk or cooked). Anyways, after school at about 3 swim usually hits a jay and immediately feels 10 times better, and after swim eats, swim feels completely better. That taste in your mouth you spoke of goes away, swim is no longer irritable, and like you said, swim goes to sleep at a much better time when he smokes.

swim knows what you are talking about. swim takes adderall and the only way swim can eat or sleep is by smoking weed. lowering the dose helps diminish the side effects. swim gets the same positive effect on 5 mgs as he does on 20 mgs but with way less unwanted side effects
