Non-addictive? That's funny...
"In 1898, while searching for a non-addictive substitute for morphine, Heinrick Dresser, working at the Bayer Laboratory in Germany, developed diacetylmorphine. Bayer marketed it under the brand name Heroin. The new drug, however, turned out to be up to ten times more potent than morphine."
(from: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/sh...a/heroin1.html ) Just thought this was interesting. First because I didn't know H was that old. Second, because I'm under the impression that any drugs effective in relieving pain, can't be non-addictive. That's kind of a holy grail that I just don't think can happen. It's part of being human - if it makes you feel better, you're going to gravitate toward it. The better it feels - the more it's gravity. |
