Methadone?

ok swim was sure there used to be a methadone forum, or at least a sub forum on the stuff.

if there is one then pls give swim a link.

swim wanted to read up about it and its effects.
she read somewere that it can be used as a painkiller, but is mostrly used to stop withdrawels from heroin.

so if one takes methadone would they get the same effects you get off opioids? and would you get the high?

many ppl swim has talked too had diffrent opinions of the stuff.
one person said they prefure methadone to other opiod and heroin highs.
others said they prefure heroin
and others just hated the stuff.
some said they have been taking it so long they no longer get any effects but have to take it otherwise they think they would die.

just seems like a very interesting drug that has adverse opinions.
and i couldnt find a forum on it, perhaps there should be one.

swim isnt thinking of taking the stuff, but is doing a project on drugs such as heroin and the effects on her life and her mums life, and well methadone is apart of it.

Just go read up on it at wikipedia. From the looks of it (SWIM is NO expert on Methadone, just from what he's read) it has the same mechanism of action as other opiates like heroine, so the high is similar, but it's structure is different and so it has some more diverse effects.

swim reads wiki but finds it hard to understand, so if someone could just put it in a more simple way.. that would help

Well, for starters, methadone is completely synthetic, while heroin and morphine are not. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think morphine is found naturally in the poppy plant, I believe it's actually active when opium is smoked. Heroin is a semi-synthetic derived from the poppy/morphine I believe. Basically, methadone is completely synthesized by man, while heroin and morphine are either found in or derived from nature.

SWIM's best guess is that it's different from both morphine and heroin and that to ask which one it's similar to is more subjective experience than anything.

Methadone is abit like other opiate highs other than the fact it lasts for hours.This seems good at first but tolerance develops very quickly.It gets to the point that one needs alot of methadone to get that feeling.It is however a very effective painkiller.Swim finds oxycodone has a more pronounced euphoria and is far less addicting in nature.

so if you took methadone as a painkiller and built up tollerence and the "high" effect wore off, would it still take the pain away or would you have to up the dose for pain managment aswell?

it seems like methadone is the last thing a doctor would want to use in pain managment as it is so addictive, but i read on wiki thats it is really cheap and lots of doctors are more willing to prescribe it as the new thing to treat chronic pain.

another question is how strong compared to other opioids is methadone, i mean morphine is the one thats used in really severe pain so were would methadone come?

like what would say 30mg of methadone compare to?

From swims personal experience morphine and methadone are very difficult to compare.Morphine has a quicker onset but its effects wear off much quicker.Methadone did seem to give swim good pain relief even at low doses however not as effectively once swim built a heavy tolerance to it as swim was using street methadone in tablets of 40 mgs.Swim would break these up into ten mg segments so they would last him longer.In conclusion methadone is an effective painkiller but if one gets it for pain management be prepared to either be on it for life or to suffer some serious consequences if it is taken away.Swim can say without a doubt methadone,not any other opiate is what changed his life for the worse.

heh if you think about it its really funny.

doctors and parm companies and the government put so much pressure on the fact that heroin and other opioids are so addictive and shouldnt be given out, so they put all there money and research into somthing man made thats cheap.. methadone.
they give it to people as the new in drug that can help pain and addicts and because its cheap they are all for it.

yet it causes more harm and bad things to people then heroin.
its more addictive, has much worse withdrawels, can cause death with other medication and causes more deaths then heroin does.

funny that.
the govenment is so fucking hypocritycle it pisses me off.

in the fight to find that ever so allusive holy grail of pain medication they really are making a mess of it.

swim was given this mediaction which was a non opioid anelgesic, another new medication that the doctors are really exited about.

cant remember what it was called but swim took 2, about 30 mins later she felt really tired like you do when you take tamazepam, then went to sleep and was shaking and sweating and felt like she was on speed.
kinda like taking an upper and a dwoner at the same time but 10 times worse.
she also felt really hungery.

it was horrible and swim would never recomend it to anyone, even if it is a break though.
just to make sure it wanst just swim she gave one to her friend and the same thing happened.

it looks like opium is just too good at what it does and unfortunatly anything good that works is always going to be addictive.
like money, alcohol and all the other things the government would never give up.

Agreed.
As tolerance for methadone goes up, so does the amount required for adequate analgesia. Methadone is NOT a good option for pain relief unless SWIyou are desperate. SWIM has known more people that have had their lives ruined from methadone rather than the actual Heroin habit they had in the first place.

methadone is a pain killer based drug as is very addictive the user gets used to a stable ammount over a few months and you need more to get the high you used to get , this is due to all your enzorphines are killed of and the higher the dose the higher the withdrawel i dont use herion i am a methadone user and valium only and a joint , i am ashamed i am on 120 mg a day i used to be on physeptone ampules but when my veins went i wouldnt go in the groin or my feet i went onto methadone i have struggled for donkeys years with it , i think my bones will be green holds my head down in shame but then if you new the life i had you would understand

Sorry to hear about that mate, if SWIY is truly ashamed, maybe they should look into getting themselves clean? There are lots of suggestions and ways to decrease withdrawals and to make cleansing oneself easier floating around here. Either way, good luck.

Also, SWIY should think about using SWIM (Someone Who Isn't Me) as to avoid self-discrimination.

i have had my script for today i get a weeks worth tommorow so ill nock ten mils of and 1 valium and see how i go for a couple of weks and reduce slowly i wont lie as you no your only kidding yourself ill keep you informed i wish they had a methadone forum it would help great

methadone is in the same family of drugs as methadone opiate based however as for my opinion as to what is stronger differs from 1 person to another 1 drug may do for you what another wont as we are all different .
i had an accident and i was tok to my local hospital they gave me a shot of morphine and then another before i got moved to the burns unit in wiston i got a more intense high of the morphine than the methadone but dont forget they work on different doses , and the high is similar to methadone , anyway folks i pick up every friday 77 yellows valium 11 a day and 120 methadone im nocking 1 tab of and 10 mills i feel like a fridge i want the toilet what a life , but just because you take drugs that does not make you a bad person 1 mans medicine is another mans poisen take care folks

Methadone is stronger than Oxycontin even. SWIM eats the pills and then they turn into liquid, it blocks the opioid receptors in the brain that trigger cravings for oxy, hydro, etc. Hence why it is used for opiate withdrawal. But still, eating 40mg will leave you fucking twisted.

Don't go there. I wouldn't suggest using methadone as a recreational drug. It is as addictive as any other opiate/opioid, plus has a longer half life in the body making withdrawal much longer and more intense.

SWIM gets high off Methadone all the time. It is really easy to get dependent on it though. Atleast for SWIM.
