how to preserve adderall?

btw this is my first post! wooo! awesome forum, im glad to now be a part of it.

okay, so someone has a question. Basically, SWIM has over 500mg's of adderall and its XR that have been purchased over the past year from friends. Im a senior in highschool, but SWIM would like to be able to "perserve" his adderall for studying purposes for when he goes off to college next year....The expiration date says discard after 1 year, but is there anyway/tips to keep the adderall from expiring for the next year or so? and if so, about how many years after can i expect it to still work?

Your friends adderall should be just fine! The "dispose by" dates on medications are often VERY conservative, and at the absolute worst the product might lose a small amount of potency. Even such a small loss is unlikely. Just make sure your friend keeps them in a sturdy pill container and stores them at room temperature. Happy tweaking/studying (im about to start exams)

alright thanks man. im currently storing them in a glass airtight container with one of the little "fresh" packets that say "dont eat this" that i got from my multivitamin haha. when you say it may lose some potency, how long are you referring to? like a year over the exp. date?

I think any loss in potency would take many years. SWIM has been perscribed various meds for ADHD (including adderall) since he was very young, and has used many perscriptions with "use by" dates going back all the way to 1993--15 years expired--without any noticeable effect on potency.

The expiration date is just the latest date at which the company can guarantee full effects. The only things one should worry about going bad are anti-biotics, but no one is abusing those any ways.

there just trying to get swim to dis-card them becuase swim should have ate those pills with/in a month yet a year.lol swims medicine is perfectly fine.

The expiration dates on drugs are there only to comply with a law passed in 1979. From the Harvard Medical School:

Most of what is known about drug expiration dates comes from a study conducted by the Food and Drug Administration at the request of the military. With a large and expensive stockpile of drugs, the military faced tossing out and replacing its drugs every few years. What they found from the study is 90% of more than 100 drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, were perfectly good to use even 15 years after the expiration date.

your adderall will suck as bad latter as it does now. I mean it will work the same very little loss even after several years. amphetamine is a strong molecule it wont be lost.
