Vitamin C?
I was just wondering why vitamin c is mentioned along with drug culture so often? In Fear and Loathing they have all the grapefruit, in one of the songs by Grateful Dead (can't remember which one) they are "living on reds, vitamin c and cocaine." Is there a reason or do they just not like getting colds?

Re: Vitamin C?
Taking vitamin C with psychedelics commonly induces a much stronger trip as well as a quicker onset. SWIM has personally experienced this on mushrooms, LSD, and mescaline, so he knows it is true to some extent.
This can be done in the way of vitamin C tablets or something as simple as a glass of cranberry juice or orange juice. |

Re: Vitamin C?
I seriously doubt that. Could you give me a link to any scientifical evidence for it? Ascorbinic acid is a strong anti-oxidant, and very good at reducing damage from free-radicals by scavaging them and neutralising them. The downside of ascorbinic acid is it's very short half-life. Even a very large dose is metabolised within an hour by the human body, and excreted in urine. Apart from it's effect as an anti-oxidant, I couldn't think of any other effects it has, so I would be interested in any evidence that could back up your claim.

Re: Vitamin C?
Seeing as this was in the Drug Culture forum, SWIM was just answering the question. SWIM isn't saying the claim is 100% true, but as far as he knows that is the reason the two are linked in pop culture.
I suppose my pet proclaimed his statement as completely true when he only meant to explain the reference. As for his personal account with the mixture, he supposes it could have been placebo as he assumes placebo's can play even larger roles than normal when on these substances. |
