Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
Here's what SWIM has been thinking about lately - the idea of a tonic or a beverage that is orally active - powerful along the lines of two to three steps above threshold...so functional , with sparkles/trails/CEVs - but not ego-smashing. And relatively short-lasting 30min-hour tops.
His initial hopes that Absinthe was that drink were dashed when he finally got his hands on some (and later made some). Absinthe is great - pleasant - but not really all that different than a glass of Uzo.
He experimented with Kava - and while it's stoning and a nice sedative - it's kind of the opposite direction, qualitatively, from what he was hoping for.
He's made green dragon (alcohol/MJ) - but the effects take a long time to come on - and then they last too long. Also, the combination of alcohol isn't always a pleasant combo for SWIM and for others.
He has yet to consider the following materials and thought he'd put it up to the group for ideas (note, he doesn't mean combine all of these - he means as individual tinctures):
Kratom / Syrian Rue / Mimosa Hostilis / Calamus / Salvia / San Pedro
What he'd like is something dilute enough that it's not just three drops under the tongue - something to pour over ice on a hot summer night, and get to a happy, manageable psychedelic headspace.
The duration-issue seems to be one of the big issues - as orally ingested things tend to last MUCH longer than when smoked/snorted.
Because the idea came from Absinthe - he naturally imagines it as an alcohol based drink (which makes sense for a lot of the above materials) but he also hesitates to combine a lot of things with alcohol, as it has its own place in the world and doesn't play well with others all the time. However, the preservative qualities of alcohol are certainly attractive.
He's not too worried about taste just yet - he's pretty good when it comes to balancing bitterness, etc. Taste will come as a secondary thing.
Thoughts? Obviously some of the ideas above are better/worse than others and some have unique issues to consider (Syrian Rue is an MAOI, etc.)
