Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
Here's what SWIM has been thinking about lately - the idea of a tonic or a beverage that is orally active - powerful along the lines of two to three steps above threshold...so functional , with sparkles/trails/CEVs - but not ego-smashing. And relatively short-lasting 30min-hour tops.
His initial hopes that Absinthe was that drink were dashed when he finally got his hands on some (and later made some). Absinthe is great - pleasant - but not really all that different than a glass of Uzo. He experimented with Kava - and while it's stoning and a nice sedative - it's kind of the opposite direction, qualitatively, from what he was hoping for. He's made green dragon (alcohol/MJ) - but the effects take a long time to come on - and then they last too long. Also, the combination of alcohol isn't always a pleasant combo for SWIM and for others. He has yet to consider the following materials and thought he'd put it up to the group for ideas (note, he doesn't mean combine all of these - he means as individual tinctures): Kratom / Syrian Rue / Mimosa Hostilis / Calamus / Salvia / San Pedro What he'd like is something dilute enough that it's not just three drops under the tongue - something to pour over ice on a hot summer night, and get to a happy, manageable psychedelic headspace. The duration-issue seems to be one of the big issues - as orally ingested things tend to last MUCH longer than when smoked/snorted. Because the idea came from Absinthe - he naturally imagines it as an alcohol based drink (which makes sense for a lot of the above materials) but he also hesitates to combine a lot of things with alcohol, as it has its own place in the world and doesn't play well with others all the time. However, the preservative qualities of alcohol are certainly attractive. He's not too worried about taste just yet - he's pretty good when it comes to balancing bitterness, etc. Taste will come as a secondary thing. Thoughts? Obviously some of the ideas above are better/worse than others and some have unique issues to consider (Syrian Rue is an MAOI, etc.) |

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
Does SWIY want suggestions for the mixture that are only herbal/legal or scheduled as well?

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
At this stage of the game - either is fine since this forum is international and what may be illegal in one place may very well be legal in another. The preference is to find something legal - of course - but to begin the discussion, there's no reason to limit the possibilities.

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
well salvia would be out straight away as it is as good as inactive orally!
I don't think its going to be possible to find exactly what swiy's looking for, as you say the duration is a big issue here, but good luck, My ferret is interested to hear the results of any experiments swiy conductss!! |

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
Salvia isn't entirely orally inactive though, is it? Quids and the like are used for dosing. From SWIM's understanding, it's active via the mucus membranes, but the stomach acids destroy most of it - SWIM was thinking that a strong alcohol/mint concoction might do the trick (the menthol in the mint to help with both the flavor and with the absorption in the lining of the mouth). The limited bio-availability in this scenario might actually be a GOOD thing - as it would make it harder to accidentally have a really overpowering sally trip.

Yes and i think a salvia tea using A LOT of material might also yield some effects, but very weak, I guess i depends on how psychedelic swiy want's it to be.

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
Kratom and San Pedro sound like SWIY's best options, but the duration SWIY is looking for is a huge bottleneck on the whole venture.
Also, salvia is definitely active orally, SWIM doesn't even have to chew on real leaves. Chewing extract even does the job, though leaves are preferred. The thing is that orally ingesting salvia will not take you to the other side of the threshold usually. SWIM feels effects, but has never had a typical salvia trip when orally taking it. Report back as developments occur, this idea has heaps of potential. ![]() |

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
SWIM is thinking that ideally the effects would max out at the mild-to-strong CEV stage with some slight OEV sparkles, but not full on OEV's - so not full-on ego-death tripping, but more along the lines of "hey, this is different". The amount of material for Salvia is a drawback because of the cost factor - assuming it even works - but it seems to be worth a shot.
mmmm - scientific method. |

Re: Suggestions for an orally active tonic/beverage
I really doubt the effects desired would be achieved from a salvia tea, although there does seem to be some conflicting opinions on how effective salvia is when eaten/drunk.
Metomni you're talking about sublingual salvia right? My ferret was talking about a tea! |
