Help with excruciating headache in opiate withdrawals.

I am about to detox a client who has repeatedly failed other symptomatic detoxes with other agencies as he gets excrutiating headaches when he withdraws from Opiates.

i was thinking this could be due to dehydration.

Anyone got any suggestions as to any other cause?

Dualpower should urgently read the rules.

Does your client have a history of migraine headaches? Maybe the
withdrawal process can trigger it. There's all kinds of non-opiate
migraine meds that might help if this is the case.

Hey Dualpower,
I love your animated pic!

Pogg,
With regard to headaches:
Dehydration is very likely; history of migraines is also good to consider...
Muscle-tension headache is another possibility - try massage of neck/shoulders/scalp/temples.
Is there any photo-phobia/sensitivity to light, history of eye-strain - try a darkened room

Cheers,
Silver Fox

Sounds to me as though the headaches are not necessarily a result of
withdrawal per se, but a condition that is being covered up by his
opiate use. Can a strong (non-opiate!) painkiller help?

Edit : Oh - I just realised this thread is completely out of date. . . oopsie!

there are doctors who specialize in headaches. if they are as bad as they sound then maybe he should see one that could get him some special treatment. baybe hypno therapy. my mother managed to solve her obesity problem with hypno therapy. hope he can get over them.
