I made this recipe for san pedro/torchs and it cuts the bitterness way down why would someone uselemon juice bah come on guys it makes it more tarty..use this reciepe.. cut spines off use a carrot peeler or knife and gently remove outter skin slice the pedro into little star like shaps poke the middle out (the hard center) slice the stars in half and blend them with 1/2 cup icecream (anyflavor) pour the mixed san pedro and icecream in a big bowl and freeze for 3 hrs...eat and enjoy.. i use this method and i get a way better tasting pedro than limon juice (i would have to guess..due to fact limon juice is sour and tarty and would make it worse..who thought of that...damn indians |

i am thinking about getting a hold of some san pedro cacti. what is the best method for preparing the cactus? i have heard of making a "smoothie"-type drink, bitter cucumber spears, boiling the cactus, etc.i want tocomsume all the green stuff (not the white core) because most extractions are too complicated for me and the simplied versionof thatdoesn't yeild better than fifty percent concerning theactive alkoloids. can some respond with advice? thank you.

DH20 is distilled water. I would suggest the syrup it is a lot less to have to swallow. Take a shot and a half and 15minutes later repeat. the pictural link posted by tomasz79 will work but you have to drink a large amount of bitter tasting sludge yes around 1oz is about 100milligrams |

dry touroughly,.. gind into fine powder - put in capsules and swallow away! Or SYRUP the cactus and evap off very very slowly until almost left with only black tarrish substance. yu can then add flower and roll the tar into little pellets. ( takes practice to get this method right) |

Swim has experienced the pleasures of both Peyote (Lophophora
williamsii) and Peruvian Torch (T. peruvianus) teas, prepared by slicing up the fresh plant material (the Peyote was actually in dry little buttons, so SWIM just broke them up into smaller pieces), thoroughly boiling it in acidified (with lemon juice) water, removing and sqeezing the "juice" out of the remaining plant material, and then drinking the lemony tea. It can be sweetened and does not taste bad at all, and SWIM has reported absolutely zero nausea from this method, but obviously it's probably not the most efficient or potent way to prepare and ingest mescaline-containing cacti. The method that SWIM used is very similar to the traditional preparation of San Pedro for healing/shamanistic purposes in Peru, which results in a tea-like brew called "Cimora". IMO the more plant material ingested, the greater the chance of nausea, and if you've ever eaten a fresh Peyote button and experienced it's unique effect on the palate, you'll probably want to avoid ingesting a large glass of green Trichocereus snot-shake or anything similar. Syrup or soup is the best way, unless you are a chemist forget about using chemicals. Make sure to ingest slowly other wise you will shock your nervous system and may not feel very well for a few hours. I would not ingest dried particulate matter of any cactus even peyote. I would ingest fresh peyote, but I would not ingest fresh T. pachanoi, otherwise just make a tea not boiled too long or too hot. When you are dealing with spirits you must know how to approach them correctly with respect and no ulteriority.

Cacti syrup is the most excrutiatingly nasty thing you can put in your mouth, believe me. If you're willing to deal with that, then it is a valid way to get the stuff down. Two ways that are a little less harsh on the palette... 1.)Slice the cacti into long sections and Remove the waxy, translucent outer skin. Also cut out the fibrous white core. Now, slice the cacti spears into small pieces and put them in a food dehydrator. Let it run until your cacti is cracker-dry. Powder in a coffee grinder, and pack it into gelcaps. You might have to swallow 100+ caps this way, depending on the potency of your cacti. Over the course of an hour thats not bad at all though, unless you have a problem swallowing pills. 2.)Alternately, make the syrup with a pressure cooker. Whip out your trusty food dehydrator and get those 'fruit leather' trays for it, and pour the syrup into the trays. Within 24-36 hours it will be compltely dry and you'll be able to break it into little pieces. Which, you can of course place into your handy coffee grinder, pulverize and pack into caps. You'll probably be able to reduce the volume by at least 50% this way, resulting in fewer caps to swallow. Mezza |

Is there a problem with eating San Pedro fresh? How about slicing fresh spears and then diping them into ranch dressing? I can't think of any reason why this wouldnt work just as well.

It does work. It just does not taste the greatest and one has to consume a large amount. Other methods stated make one have to consume less and give an estimation of the potency |

k here it is my "friend" has an ample stash of san pedro cactus
and he wants to use it he has decided to cut off the amount needed(not exactly sure how much) peel it, freeze it,de core it and boil it down for a while(2-4hrs?)he's then going to dry it out either in a fine sheet on a proper food drier or in deeper chunks and shape pill shapes out of it to swallow,or grind it into powder and put in pills.my question is will this method work and what should he do as a first time san pedro tripper to ensure a good trip etc.cheers |

My main concern with this method is that you're excluding a large part of the plant material. That may well reduce the bitterness but can you be sure you're not losing a lot of the mescaline as well? For those of us with limited supplies of cactus that's a very important factor.

This is what I've found is the best method of preparation, unless you plan on a full A/B extract: Slice the cacti into spears, remove the translucent outer skin, and the white fibrous core. Slice the inner skin into small, 1/8" thick slices. Place all these in a food dehydrator and leave it on a low setting until completely dehydrated. Now, take these pieces, crumble them into a coffee grinder and grind them to a fine powder. Tap the top and let it sit for a minute so you dont lose any 'cacti dust' Use a gel cap rack like the 'cap-em-quick', pack the empty '00' capsules full of the cacti powder. Tamp them down using the 'tamping tool' you can buy separately or the eraser end of a new pencil. Pack them as tight as possible. The boiling method will work too, but its a pain. Removing the core and skin dramatically reduces the bulk of the cacti, resulting in less caps to swallow. A full trip will be between 20 and 60 caps, depending on the strength of your cacti - so its best to test the waters first with about 10 caps. If you can barely feel it (~100mg mescaline) triple or quadruple the dose for the full effects. FYI - A friend tried this procedure on 8" of T.Bridgesii. Ended up with about 25 '00' caps. He took them all one night, planning on a very mild psychedelic buzz that would combine well with some cannabis. Ended up holding on for dear life when he was catapulted into a fairly intense 10+ hour trip! ![]() Mezza |

SWIM yesterday afternoon tried torch dried chips for the first time, he really wants to know a simple not too complicated
way to take dried chips and turn them into 1/20 the volume of material without losinig any precious herbal powers. Last edited by ~lostgurl~; 10-01-2009 at 09:47. Reason: removed broken link |
