The basic and quick answer to your question is no your heart will not shut down due to smoking marijuana. If anything it should help and ease the pain a bit. For those asking what it is, its a motorcycle yes but its also a self-limited problem that mostly resolves after the acute phase of the illness. As you know, Kawasaki's is primarily seen in children and is identified by conjunctivitis, reddening of the palms, lips, and oral cavity, a generalized rash, and swollen lymph nodes. Its generally not a disease that should worry you to much as far as cannabis consumption is concerned. The only real issues you should have are those brought upon you by the disease itself. |

Yes, tobacco can and will irratate you if smoked. Marijuanna however is lacking most of the chemicals that cause the irritation, namely acetone.

I disagree with the boss. Marijauna can cause iritation and has many of the same chemicals that tobacco has. It basically breaks down to this. Smoke=Death. If you smoke anything then you are putting cacinogens in your body which are killing you with every hit. I smoke pot most every day so you can see it does not bother me very much. But I will not contribute to the lie that smoking pot is safe and has no negative side effects.

what is this Kawasaki condition? i have never heard of it and if my mom was home i'd go ask her. If you think that smoke is going to cause problems with you then i'd do the safe thing and go to a docter. I wouldnt go in saying "I wanna smoke as much weed as i want will it be an issue" just be like, every once and a while i enjoy a nice ciggarette and i was wondering with my condition will it hurt me? isnt marijuana smoke 3 times as harsh as ciggs? that was what i was taught by the health teachers at school Muirner |

ok dude so SWIM asked his mom what it was. here is what it is- "Mucocutaneous Lymph Node Syndrome" "Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, also know as Kawasaki diesease, was the firs described in Japain in 1967. The acute illness is characterized by (1) Prolonged fever (over 5 days) that is unresponsive to antibiotics; (2) conjunctivitis; (3) crackin and fissuring of of the lips, with inflammation of mucous membranes; (4) cervical lymphadenopathy; (5) rash involving the trun and extremities, with reddened palms and soles of the hands and feet and subsequent desquamation of tips of the toes and fingers; and(6) edema. Patients may also have associated arthritis. Thembocytosis and increased sedimentation rate are seen on laboratory examination. Cardiovascular complications during the acute illness include myocarditis, pericarditis, and arteritis that predisposes the patient to aneurysm formation in the coronary arteries in approximately 20% of patients. Aneurysm formation may occur 7-45 days after the onset of illness. Acute myocardial infrction my occur during the acute illness secondary to thrombosis of these aneurysms. Death occurs in 1-2% of patients during this phase of the illness. Long-term follow-up of patients with aneurysms show some resolution of aneurysms in 50% of those affected; the remainder may continue to have aneurysms, may develop stenosis, and, possibly later, may develop myocardial ischemia. During the acute illness and for 2-3 months after patients should be monitored closely and by serilal electrocardiography, chest x-ray, and M-mode and two demensional echocardiography. Selective coronary angiography is recommended in those patients with coronary abnormalities detected by echocardiography. The acute illness is now treated with high doses of intravenous immune globulin (IGIV), 2g/kg as a single dose given over 10-12 hours. If fever recurs within 48-72 hours and no outer source of the fever is detected, a repeat dose is recommended, and high doses of asprin, 20mg/kg per does giving four times a day until day 14 of illness, then 3-5mg/kg/d for 2-3months from the onset of illnes if the echocardiogram is normal or indefinitely if coronary abnormalities are present. Evidence of myocardial inschemia or infraction warrants early cardiac catheriation and bypess surgery if obstruction exists" American Heart Association Committee on Rheumatic Feaver, Endocarditis, Kawasaki Diesease: Guidelines for long term managemtne of patients with Kawaski diseses. Circulation 1994;98:916 Cersony WM: Diagnosis and managemtn of Kawasaki disese. JAMA 1991;265:2699 Managemt of Kawasaki syndrome: A consensus statement prepared by North American participants of the third international Kawasaki disese symposium, Tokyo Japan, December 1988. Pediatr Infect Dis J 1989;8:663 So after reading all (and me typing it all)that i dont think that you had the disese for 7 years. Or anywhere close to there. As for the smoking and long term heart problems, i think they would have told you them when they were doing the extensive testingas described above... So i'd pretty much say your in the clear, but hell if your on your parents insurance go the the DR and get an EKG Muirner |
