I.V. cocaine = serious health problems in future?

Are there any health problems that go beyond that of routine insufflation use of cocaine, that occur to IV users?

MINUS the obvious health concerns regarding needles and infections, and vein care.

Does cocaine administered directly into a bloodstream cause long term or short term damage other than whats typically found in snorting users?

hypothetical example given;

snorting cocaine for 5 years=increased chance of heart attack, blood pressure, perhaps brain damage...

injecting cocaine for 5 years=10x increased chance of heart attack, mental problems, very very high chance of blood pressure, etc

Re: Serious health problems in future?

its all about the doses.

The route of administration changes a) bioavailability b) pharmacokinetics. Being that it is the same drug either through mucous membrane absorption or IV what differs is that iv cocaine is much more available in the body (for example 1gr of cocaine insufflated is roughly 0.3-0.6gr in the blood, while iv one gr is one gr). The second is the speed by which the drug reaches its target, and when the speed is great like in iv the drugs "surges" the brain in one big gulp. Thus the brain cannot reply via enzymic or what have you homeostasis in a smooth gradual manner but instead it responds in shock.

Thus the iv cocaine crash is greater.

But again, its all about the doses, iv users tend to use MUCH MORE cocaine per hit per session and that leads to bigger proportionaly side effects

Re: Serious health problems in future?

Infections and vein care should be the least of your concerns if you IV coke. Firstly, IV cocaine is a sure fire path to addiction. Secondly, when you inject coke with increasing frequency and increasing doses, judgement goes out the window. When you get careless with IV coke, which will happen if you keep doing it long enough, you will most likely cross the line from bell ringer to seizure and overdose.

Check out the emergency room statistics. Cocaine overdose is among the most frequent drug-related admissions. Unlike opiate overdoses that can be treated with Narcan, cocaine overdoses (and chronic use) cause irrepairable cardiovascular problems.

Be safe.
