A new entry has been added to Drugs Archive

Description:
Arch Gen Psychi 2008,65(2):236-237

Krebs, TS, Johansen, PØ

Letter commenting and critiquing an the publication of Schilt and colleagues appearing in the same journal in 2007 reporting impaired verbal memory in people reporting low to moderate ecstasy use. Krebs and Johansen comment on range of test scores, likelihood of retest effects over the study period, issues relating to cumulative and per occasion drug use, and effects of stereotype threat on test performance. The authors also mention current trials of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy

Schilt, T, de Win, MM, Koeter M, Jager G, Korf D, van den Brink W, Schmand B

Schilt and colleagues reply to a letter by Krebs and Johansen in the same issue critiquing their 2007 study of cognitive function in low-dose ecstasy users. They question Krebs and Johansen's doubts about retest effects, re-assess data accounting for cumulative and per occasion drug use, and comment on stereotype threat. They also agree on a distinction between nonmedical and therapeutic use
