does cocaine affect dopamine receptors differently from amp?

SWIM has heard that cocaine doesnt cause the dopamine overload such as amphetamines and meth. but is this true?

he heard that cocaine just makes the dopamine already present go nuts, while meth will cause a huge surge in dopamine.

does SWIY have any info on the differences of cocaine and amphetamine effects on dopamine?

Re: does cocaine affect dopamine receptors differently from amp?

cocaine is a DAT antagonist, when the body releases dopamine, it quickly re absorbs it (a prosess called reuptake) via the dopamine reuptake transporter (DAT). Cocaine blocks those and the dopamine already free will no be absorbed.

amphetamines do it differently, they go where the dopamine is stored and FORCE it out, and take its place so dopamine is released and cannot be stored back.

they do have other pharmacologic differences, in the afinity to other neurotransmiters (amph has more afinity for norepinephrine while cocaine for serotonine etc...)

but yeah, speed is more pottent as far as dopamine release goes

Re: does cocaine affect dopamine receptors differently from amp?

Methamphetamine HCl works by fooling the neurons that receive dopamine to pick it up.
So, the Neuron(s) release a Neurotransmitter (Dopamine) from it's Axon. This Neurotransmitter crossed the Synapse and attaches to a specific Dendrite(s). Methamphetamine can mimic Dopamine and can therefore be picked up by the receptors.

Once inside, Meth causes the neuron(s) to reverse their flow. This release a flood of Dopamine. Methamphetamine also prevents the reupake of Dopamine.
Methamphetamine also causes Serotonin and Norepinephrine to be released.
