Hi, SWIM was collecting some hash from his ice-o-lator and his 4 month old cat ate a tiny bit, but now looks completely stoned. She can walk but doesnt want to and seems like she feels sick. Is there any danger of cats ODing on THC? Should SWIM wait it out or call the vet?

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
I would go see a vet just be safe, he could probably make it vomit out most of it before it's metabolized if it ate alot, if it was a tiny bite I wouldn't worry. My parrot tells me he has seen a dog that ate most of a bag of hash brownies once, it sure as hell didn't look like it felt good, but it was okay after some hours past, though a bit drowsy the day after. With a tripsitter petting it, I would think it can ride it out.

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
I do not consider myself an expert but a former roommate of mine had two kittens she used to 'hotbox' with and feed small buds to. The kittens would often get quite stoned and pass out for a few hours but never seemed to suffer any permanent damage. Cats however cannot tell you what sort of mental effects they go through so who knows.
These kittens grew into perfectly normal seeming cats with no health problems according to veterinary checkups. However, I have no expertise in this field. Hopefully someone else can help you more, any vets around? |

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
We must agree, though as mentioned the kittens seemed fine later. We in no way condone this or similar practices, merely sharing what experience we have. The roommate in question had a habit of forcing substances onto her pets, she figured out how to get a cat drunk (will not share as no matter how funny it looked the cat obviously did not enjoy it) and once gave a 6-foot bong hit to one of her cats. The cats as mentioned did get vet checkups and the vet reported them as healthy from what we understand.
One of the cats grew up to enjoy and seek out pot smokers, the other never seemed to like it, possibly due to early trauma involving the substance. Both of them have since gone to (much) better homes. |

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
Swim had a crazy buddy that loved making cannabutter. This crazyass never purposefully got their animals buzzed but did feel really bad when their almost year old dog knocked the empty metal bowl (after straining, refridg.) off of the counter and licked it clean.
Things were O.K. Cattle Dog was normal acting for the first hour (you know...however long it takes to kick in) and then the dog layed on the floor, not really moving for several hours. Dog was chillin. Chillin hardcore I think. Crazyass noticed that the dog's tongue was kind of dried (compared to the usual slob mess) and gave him ice cubes to lick, which he loves, and helped to get him some hydration. They layed on the couch together (both blazed out of their minds) with Crazyass petting, rubbing, stroking his fur. This was enjoyable since it was the first time Crazyass had been able to hold their cattle dog without him squirming and knocking his skull into their chin. They have a reason to believe that the dog really liked this too. Dog came around a little earlier than the Crazyass and went right back to being his usual dog self. They have taken extra measures to not leave the metal bowl near the edge of the counter again but had a feeling that the dog was just as relaxed as his owner though he didn't realize why and didn't have much of a choice in it after the ingestion. Aside from the "surprise" of it, crazyass thinks the cat would be fine. Possibly bringing it to the vet might redflag swim for no reason (always better to be safe than sorry though. Swims loves cats SOOO much *snuggles them* and will always advise to bring their fluffer to the vet if they feel the need) LEC |

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
From studies it has been shown that a lethal dose in rats(oral ingestion) is like 300 times there body weight. The cat could have eaten every bit of it and still lived. Marijuana doesn't cause death from over dose, an over dose is usually considered as an uncomfortable feeling. A lethal dose is much much much higher than an overdose with marijuana and is practically unachievable. Even in animals as small as cats and dogs (dogs eat much more so more prone to overdose) but swim would bet that the animal could eat until they were so full they stopped (dogs are dumb they will eat till they kill thereself) and still be in perfect health.

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
300 times their body weight?! O_o SWIM isn't advocating animal cruelty here but would like to know how one would go about making anything eat that much. It would be similar to showing 24 tons down the throat of a 80kg human subject lol. I agree the lethal oral dosage is high though, the merck index says LD50 is 1270 mg/kg (male rats), 730 mg/kg (female rats) oral in sesame oil.

Re: URGENT! My cat ate some hash, what should I do????
Yeah, swim couldnt recall the exact numbers but knows its extremely high. Thats why swim worded it "like 300 times" instead of "300 times". For relevance, you can kill yourself quicker drinking water than smoking cannabis. Oral ingestion would on the other hand be easier (unless you suffercasted from lack of oxygen of were smothered to death by the smoke lol) for a lethal dose to apply, although swim believes that a lethal dose cannot ever be aquired, even if swiy was trying to kill themselfs with marijuana it would be damn near impossible.
EDIT: After doing some research i found some pretty useful information regarding this thread. Quote:
Ah and a funny i thought might be a good read to some (its a trip report lol) Quote:
Edit2: This from wikipedia (swim trusts wikipedia as a source) Quote:
