Breathing problems with diphenydramine

Swim recently tried Diphenhydramine from generic allergy pills, this was swims 3rd time trying swim took 300mg.

It was ok until the breathing problems kicked in swim had very shallow breathing for many hours after and was wondering if it was the Diphenhydramine or a inactive in ingredient found in the generic allergy pills "benzyl alcohol".

from research it doesn't appear in regular benadryl, and is said to caues respiratory failure any info would help.

swim also had 1 hallucination of a clear face and it was pretty cool, and swim would like to try again, "one without benzyl alcohol of course" if that is the problem, but not if it kills swim.

this is my first post so i hope i didn't break any rules

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

I know nothing of benzyl alcohol, but diphenhydramine can cause thickened lung secretions. Swim has sometimes had mild trouble breathing when on too much Benadryl; he figured it was his smoking habit, but it did feel as if there was too much mucus somewhere in his airway.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

Swim definitely had shallow breathing on doses as low as 100mgs. When SWIM took her highest dose, she was quite frightened about how shallow her breathing was. And SWIM does feel like her throat had thickened due to mucus build up. Weird sensation since she had uber cottonmouth at the same time.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

Mucus buildup + respiratory depression = trouble breathing. Respiratory depression is an effect of high doses of diphenhydramine and other first-generation antihistamines.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

A phew days ago swim tried actual benadryl and the breathing problems were there still but not as bad as with the generic stuff, swim did the same 300mg dose and only had a dry lung feeling not the i cant catch my breath feeling swim had before. Swim also had lots of crazy dreams for 4 days after.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

After a few experiences, Swim doesn't think much of diphenhydramine "trips", especially when compared to other substances. The horrible cottonmouth, the delirium, and the irritated breathing are just too much.

He finds that he can enjoy a lower dose, however - something like 150mg. Is like a very light delirium mixed with mild euphoria and far less unpleasantness. His lungs don't seem to bother him at this level.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

This happened to swim, but only because there was anothe ingrediant in the stuff. The aceti w.e. thats in tylenol. Make sure its only diphenhydramine in swiy stuff.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

That is a bit misleading. Diphenhydramine is known to cause respiratory depression at high doses, whereas acetaminophen isn't.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

This has happened to swim before. He had trouble breathing, his sinuses were clogged, and he had horrible sinus headaches. This is one of the things that prompted swim to seriously cutback on diphenhydramine use.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

While somewhat off topic, swim has been recently investigating different ways to consume diphenhydramine for quicker or better result. Im a noob and dont know how to post a thread, so swim figured he would just ask here. Snorting hurts like hell and the drip is terrible, but it hits you pretty hard. swim tried smoking it but was unsure of how effective it was, and swim also tried disolving it in water and drinking, which seemed to work ok. anyone have any experiences with different dosing methods?

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

With diphenhydramine just simply swallowing the pills seem to work just fine.No point in trying to insuffulate it or anything like that.

Re: Breathing problems with diphenydramine

Swim supposes swiy is right, but swim sometimes wishes he could just do something for a quick high. Swim definitely has no patience. Insuffulating actually works really well for swm when he starts to run low. One 25 mg capsule snorted feels like 150 and is rlatively insatant, but the pain is almost unbearable. Also swim hates carrying around capsules that break in his pocket and spill suspicious white powder everywhere when he sits down! If it was easily smokeable swim would just remove the powder and place it into a small baggie so it wasn't so messy.
