US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
Will the spots run before or after the ads for Bud Light?

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
Citizens, in my opinion, should have more control of where their tax dollars go. Send my taxes to support hunger relief efforts, please. A commercial? What a waste of money.

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
So we are paying the government for them to tell us how to run our lives?

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
Here's my somewhat flippant take on this:
They'd damned well better come up with something really funny, like the This is you Brain on Drugs campaign, or that ad where some stoners going through a drive-thru restaurant run over some little kids in the process. The Stupid Bowl ads are all about entertainment. They're the only reason I even watch part of this stupid event!

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
well isn't this just crazy another example of the Gov. just throwing around money that we don't have on things that should be attended to in the home. Parents have a much better way of telling kids about the dangers of drugs then does any tv commercial.
I believe that the role of the parent is slowly being transfered from parents to the TV. Just another example of how we do what the man tells us too. |

The irony of course being that the players on the field are so pumped full of the same pain killers that they're having seizures on the off-season from withdrawal.

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
Damn for a government that is going into a recession one would think they would spend their money a little more wisely. Stop wasting money one stupid bs like 14 million on ads. How many prevention programs could that pay for? How many students could they pay to go to college? These things in swibs opinion are better ways to prevent drugs use than an ad on TV. This and the war are just more reasons to show how stupid the US government is. For a free country “By the people and for the people” The people should have more of a choice for were there taxes go and how to live their own lives.

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
As much as I love the game, I have to agree with all the above comments. It is especially ironic if the campaign is going to target prescription drug abuse. Shit they might as well throw some anti-steriod bits in there as well.

America's worst burden? I can think of several.... Bush, the War on Drugs, a history of damaging and less than ethical military/economic/political interventions in other countries, Reagan, our dependency on oil, declining quality of the media, polarization and partisanship in the political discourse, big pharma and other vested interests, etc. etc.

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
The ad was just on. It was a skeezy-ass drug dealer wearing a wife-beater and an unbuttoned cheap looking shirt with greasy hair standing by a payphone on the corner of what I presume was a convenience store. He basically said something like
"Time's is tough, business is down by half. Ain't no one coming to drug dealers anymore, these kids today is getting high out of the medicine cabinet. Next time your kid gets messed up, don't blame me, more likely it was your drugs than my drugs." Then a reassuring voice comes on and says "Safeguard your prescriptions, safeguard your teens." And it shows something that says "Parents: The Anti-Drug" |

Yeah, this ad was really really stupid. It's a shame how they portray drug dealers. Honestly, if kids get that image for a drug dealer, things will only get worse for them, because they won't even realize that they're doing drugs when their friends offer it to them. |

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
thats the only reason i watched the superbowl, for the commercials. and they were terrible this year. swim finds that pills are very scary, from ignorant dosers, the mixes of chemicals you want and dont want, and with pills especially like E, it's nearly impossible if it's authentic E or generic tylenol. medicine will be a bigger problem than we think in the near future

Re: US to waste $14M running anti-drug ads in Super Bowl
If I want to see examples of the word stupidity I need only turn on the tv.Is most of the world asleep? How anyone could not find the idea that they play anti drug commercials and then commercials glorifying beer within the same advertisement segments sometimes both incredibly stupid and sickening in its hypocricy,is beyond me.Whats wrong with people? Are that they willing to accept the media feeds them?I guess people are too busy worrying what age Britney Spears's sister started having sex to worry about their own personal and simple human freedoms.
