Quarter of adults admit using drugs

A quarter of all adults on the island of Ireland admit to illegal drug use, a new study has found.
The study found one in fourteen people (7%) had used a substance in the last year, while one in 30 (3%) had taken an illegal drug in the last month.
The Drugs Prevalence Survey was undertaken by the the National Advisory Committee on Drugs in Ireland and the Drug and Alcohol Information and Research Unit in Northern Ireland. About 5,000 adults in the Republic of Ireland and 2,000 from the North took part in the survey, which was conducted between October 2006 and November 2007.
