I have some papaver somniferum poppies that will be growing soon. I have just a few basic questions which would help me out so much!.
1) After cutting the pods and getting the tar and drying it, is it smokeable?. 2) Would it be better to just eat the tar? How many pods would it take?. 3) Would poppy seeds from a grocery store grow to be opium poppies? Thanks so much for the info!. |

1) You only get tar when carving the pods, not by cutting them and drying. When you cut the pods, you can dry and grind them and this is smokeable but you better make tea of it. 2) Eating is possible, but smoking or tea-drinking will give better effects. I only know of making tea from 8 pods will give a good buzz. 3) Only the Papaver Somniferum seeds do the trick, but I heared of people using California Poppies; it seemes to give a marijuana-like high or something... |

ooo ok. So there isn't much point in making incisions in the pods to get the sap out?. Better to just cut the whole pod off when it is mature and then grind it up or make tea?. I have been researching alot on the web but suprisingly I haven't found much info. Thanks alot man.

Could anyone direct me to site that has details on exactly how to make the tea?.
Or, if it's simple enough, could anyone just tell me here?. |

i want only to add that i realized that it makes the tea a lot stronger when you use some alcohol for brewing, takes more alkaloids over, sadly also the unwanted ones... |

If you smoke the tar, it helps to have a smoking base with the tar, like smoking tobacco, flavored ones if prefered. The tar tends to melt easily, making it hard for new users to get it right. Smoking opium can be very messy.

If you just got a small amount of seeds, just plant them. If you got alot, you can boil them and make a potent tea.

If it is a small amount of seeds, I doubt that the tea would have any effect, but you never know.

You can make shallow incisions to milk the liquid latex out. Just be sure not to make the incision too deep or the latex will drain into the seed chamber of the pod. Also make sure that the opium milk is thick enough and that it isn't too watery. If it's too watery it will run off the plant and you will lose it. Wait a couple days for the plant to mature a little more and then try making another incision again to see if the milk is thick enough. After you milk the pods a number of times and they start drying up. Cut them, dry them, and then make tea out of them. You can get alot out of those precious pods. |
