Re: Cocaine Panic Distorder - Is it possible ??

in SWIM opinion the panic attack is induced by the fact that SWIY wanted to quit cocaine for good but is relapsing (even consciously) into using again. It is obviously facilitated by the catecholamine increase that cocaine produces but is more or less the fact that your mind is fighting the use.

SWIM got something similar, cocaine, even pure cocaine at this point just makes swim sick. All the euphoria etc are there but there is a constant need of the brain to just "get the fuck out of this state-return to baseline". This made swim more or less stop using cocaine, its not even remotely appealing to him anymore EVEN THOUGH there is a primal "urge" to see if THIS time its any good.

Re: Cocaine Panic Distorder - Is it possible ??

SWIM had the same panic attack a few weeks ago after taking some fun with cola and champagne. SWIM was driving his car and started to feel faint. That was terrible. After that SWIM stopped the car a lot of times before arriving at home. SWIM didn't went to sleep because he was not able to stay in bed or just sitted. He had to walk. SWIM started to walk in the street but soon many panic attacks occours. He really was sure he was dying like a dog in the street. Then SWIM reached the nearby emergency ambulance station and went to hospital. Doctors checked SWIM heart and everything was normal. After that doctors gave some benzo SWIM. SWIM after this hell went to sleep at home with a taxi.
That happened to SWIM in a lighter way another time last saturday mixing beers and cola. SWIM stopped immediatly taking cola and after 3 hours of comedown SWIM went to sleep.
SWIM is not a newbie, why does this is happening to SWIM right now?

Re: Cocaine Panic Distorder - Is it possible ??

SWIM would get all spratted out while Coke binging... and on the comedown, SWIM would panic. Like, SWIM felt like he was losing it or going to die, which is just like a panic attack. SWIM would reccomend waiting about an hour or 2 before ingesting a downer.

Oh god, SWIM read on the "easing comedown" that lot of people suggest to take xanax or other benzos before the last line. So do you think is it dangerous to do that? If it is so dangerous why there's nobody speaking about problems taking benzos before the last line?
When SWIM was at the hospital the doctor says SWIM when does SWIM stopped to take coke and then, only after knowing that SWIM last line was 3 hours before, gave him some ansiolin (a benzo)...

Re: is it possible to develop a panic disorder after using cocaine for a year or two

SWIM wouldent say it's dangerous, however SWIM has had problems with doing this. Like feeling really weird, not able to sleep, having nightmares while awake. It may be that SWIM is still high on Cocaine when he took the benzos the few times, and the Benzo dident make nice with the stimulant.
If SWIM waited an hour, he could relax and fall asleep no problem.

Same thing happens to SWIM whilest on Methamphetamine.
SWIM was just saying what was best for him, and just putting it out there

The cocaine, the mind and mental issues thread

SWIM recreationally uses cocaine every once in a while (it was about once every weekend during a spring season), and now uses it about twice a month. Has anyone done any research on potential mental disorders in which drug use (cocaine in particular) is highly suspect as the cause? If so, what was the drug use?

Re: Future mental problems due to cocaine use?

This depends on multiple things. There are so many "mental disorders". There are different levels of severity. The genetic history of the person. The proportional use compared amongst so many people. There is no way to give a real answer to this, seriously.

Re: Future mental problems due to cocaine use?

Well, you bring up a good point about the person's history and family history of mental disorders. However I do disagree with you in the sense that studies conducted for this topic have turned out inconclusive. The reason why I've posted this thread is because I seem to be having some trouble finding the exact information that I would like (which is just the question that I asked). But that point you brought up is very good. I do think it might be difficult to blame a trend on drugs or whatever, but after several large (100-1000 pple) samples of the population (who have mental disorders that are presumably non-genetic), I think there either would or would not be a trend. I'm having trouble finding studies whose purpose is just that. But I'm glad you responded.

Re: Future mental problems due to cocaine use?

as the CAUSE?

hardly...it could transiently "cause" several disorders of the "anxiety" type (ranging from panic disorder, to full blown psychosis) but they are cause mainly by cns depletion and subside with cease of use..
