kind of a dumb question, i guess. but, i got a film developed at a
superstore once with a bunch of various bud smoking pictures and stuff
like that, and out of the roll i got 3 back (the non-druggy ones). I
later was told that its illegal for places like this to develop these
pics for some stupid reason. I have a friend who had a bunch of pics
from a similar place no problem. i would get a digital cam, but, i'm
freakin poor. do you guys have like drug friendly development places,
or just the digital?

I doubt that is illegal. More than likely it is against store policy.
For the same reasons, they tend not to print pictures of nudity in many
cases. It is really up to the discretion of the person developing the
prints as I understand.

They are also supposed to (by store policy I think) report pictures that suggest abuse etc.

To avoid this, go to a small town developer, not a walmart/zellers/chain store.

Or better yet, get to know someone working at one. They have the
ability to make your prints really really nice if the actually care.
Most places just let the machine decide exposure etc. which can be
shitty much of the time.

Pimpjuice, wtf are you on about? ! Otherwise, got to agree with the others - the smaller the processor the safer, avoid the big chains. There was a case a good few years ago in the U.k. where a newsreader(I forget which one) was accused of photographing kiddie porn because she took photo's of her children taking a bath, and took her film into Boots(huge U.K. chemist chain) to get them developed! Not the same, but that's how these dicks work... Oh, I get it now Pimpjuice - idiculous!

why would anyone in their right mind photograph themselves doing anything illegal and then bringing it to someone they don't know and have never met to develop? This just seems insane to me. It's people like that who keep the cops busy and not looking my way.

Here in the Netherlands development places are obliged to call the cops if they see something illegal.

Same in USA, I believe... was being stupid once, and took a picture of
my ass. Forgot all about it, dropped it off to get developed. A day later,
got a call - hello officer. Had to explain I was just being a dumbass, and
they let it go. It was still a pain in the ass though, not to mention very
embarassing.

I wouldn't chance taking a picture of yourself doing anything illegal and
taking it in to get developed! Not even a small chain, there's still a risk.
Just get a digital camera, they are getting cheaper and cheaper these
days.

Well I don't know about you but there is no way in hell I'm going to take some pictures of some bud or me smoking bud and take them somewhere else to be developed. I mean come on.....

Digital cameras can be found everywhere for dirt cheap...much much safer way to go.....a couple rolls of film developed at a store would be the same as just buying a digital camera....

Another alternative would be to get a polaroid camera that would take instant pictures but at poor quality....

Just call the Film Processing company in advance.

I knew a guy who worked at a photography studio. His place would process porn, drugs . . . whatever. This (certainly) got them a lot of "special" work to develop. They were more expensive than the local Wal-marts, but a couple dollars is good insurance, for getting all of the pictures back.

And, check in your envelope. Sometimes the Processor leaves you the Negatives, and just refuses to print up the Positives. If you have the Negative, just call around, and get them printed up for you.

How did they know it was mj you were smoking? Tell them it was a rolled up cig, or pipe tocabbo. It probably isnt worth arguing over though just get a digi. SWIM knows a guy who works at a photo developer and he encourages bringing pics of naked girls! HAHA but seriously a digital camera would save you a lot of time and money.

Poor ColdEmbrace. He said at the beginning: "i would get a digital cam, but, i'm freakin poor." I can understand this. Because, not only does one need a Digital Camera, but also a Computer (and printer) to "Develop" the pix. This puts the dream of a Digital Dark-room out of the reach of a lot of us.

So, the advice pours in, as to how to handle Cold's Pot-pix problem:
(1) "Hey man, you should just get a digital camera..."
(2) "Just get a digital camera." . . . and now
(3) "seriously a digital camera would save you a lot of time and money."

I know how ColdEmbrace feels. I only take a few pix each year, and would hate to invest in new hardware (although in my case, I have the funds to do so, if I wish), when I can just keep taking them down to the Drug Store.

I like Sitbcknchill's thought: Get a Polaroid camera. Then, if you take 2 pix a year, one roll will last you a good, long time.
