Re: filtering out sediments/yeast after brewing.

My ferret is by no means an expert, but his father used to make homemade wine, and if i remember correctly he used to let the wine sit in bottles till the sediment had percipitated and then siphon off the clean wine, he would repeat this process till the wine was totally clear. That's pretty time consuming, maybe granny could filter through a cheese cloth?

Re: filtering out sediments/yeast after brewing.

Like mint boi said. Let it settle and then siphon off. when you are siphoning, make sure SWIY does not disturb the sediments on the bottom. Hope it helps. Enjoy the wine.

Re: filtering out sediments/yeast after brewing.

Reducing the temperature (55f or close) really increases the ability for the sediment to settle out, sometimes this is not really possible(in my case, can't refrigerate, or place outside/in cellar) so time is the best solution. try siphoning once into a second container, waiting a few days to a few weeks(for good wine several weeks/months - longer its stays all together the better) then siphoning again into bottles or whatever containers grandma wants.
if you just want to filter, then try coffee filters, uncle hasn't tried but it could work in theory. It will probably take a long time for several gallons, however you could try say a liter and see if it turns out how you like.
