Anybody out there love watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos while blazing?

SWIM loves getting high and watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos series that airs on the science channel. Was wondering if anybody else watches this show OR knows of other similar shows that SWIM should check into? SWIM finds shows regarding space to be absolutely mind blowing while getting high.

SWIM is such a dork that he bought the entire Cosmos series on dvd.

SWIM totally agrees. SWIM loves watching shows about space especially while high. SWIM would suggest Star Trek because some of the stuff they talk about is really cool.

Re: Anybody out there love watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos while blazing?

The universe is a fascinating topic, perhaps the most fascinating topic of them all. I like to watch those perspective videos you can find on YouTube and the like where they compare the size of our planet, our sun and our solar system to far great bodies and even how those massive bodies are yet only a dot on the map in comparison to the size of our galaxy. It really is one of the few things that is generally awe-inspiring and almost incomprehensible.

You would actually die long before actually getting sucked into the hole because of how intense the gravity would be before you actually got to it.

Recently, there has been a lot of support for the theory that black holes aren't actually holes that things fall into. Rather, they are immense points of gravity that keep a lot of matter swirling around it at a very intense pace. The "beams" that are seen shooting away from this black hole in the picture below is actually matter getting sprayed out away from the hole. This happens because the "hole" is unable to hold all of the matter at one point all at the same time. This backs up the idea that the hole is not really a hole at all...just an intense point of gravity. This picture is computer generated but represents a lot of the real black holes that have been found. You can find plenty of real images of black holes out there on the internet.

Sorry for the rant. I sound like my astronomy professor. :/

Re: Anybody out there love watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos while blazing?

Absolutely. SwiPA saw the evolution episode high. It took quite a while to explain in full, but imagining the whole process from beginning to end nearly brought tears to SwiPA's eyes. When SwiPA thinks about the beauty of evolution, versus the simplicity of creationism, he comes to the conclusion that creationists must simply not understand the process well enough. Evolutionary theory adds to the beauty of life and the universe on a much more far-reaching scale than he ever saw things when he was a christian.

EDIT: Oh, radiometer posted a link to the Mr. X article.

Re: Anybody out there love watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos while blazing?

the very start of the cosmos show where they show that orange pink cluster galaxy with the piano music used to give me major anxiety attacks. i used to think a hell of alot about mortality and my place in the universe. I used to hug the cat and think about the mortality of the both of us, and our place in the universe.

excellent series - i think the best series/docoumentary i've ever watched. I have enourmous respect for carl sagain..

I absolutely love that intro scene. In fact, I think it's that intro is one part of why Cosmos seems to be so much better than all the other educational shows out there. That and Sagan's intangible charisma. When he smiles after or during an explanation of something, he's basically saying, "Cool shit, eh?".

The music, the man, and the material. What an eye-opening combination. I think if there could ever be something like "psychedelic science" then this show would be the archetype of such a genre.
