Storing dried Peruvian Torch?

SWIM recently laid his hands on a very big bag of dried Peruvian Torch shards for silly money

SWIM was wondering how long the stuff keeps for, if kept under normal room conditions (in the back of a wardrobe at present), and are there any special precautions that need to be taken to ensure it's potency isn't affected during long term storage? How sensitive is this stuff to heat and light?
