Mushroom Potency/Natural Tolerance

I live in western Canada and we have a few species of mushroom commonly sold here as "magic". Typical strains I see for sale are Mexican, Liberty Caps, Blue Halo's and recently Equadorian's.

Usually for Blue Halo's I take a few dry grams (3-4), nothing more... Gets a good giggly high going with lots of enhanced visuals. Usually a pretty chatty high, nothing more

Liberty Caps I take around 5-7 dry grams and get pretty high... Very couched... Lots of inner thoughts, reflection.. Visuals are pretty enhanced, the grin that won't go away... usual stuff

Mexicans I take an eigth to quarter (dry again) and only have a few visuals... Get very giggly and chatty, I feel disoriented and am unsteady on my feet.

Now from everything I have read, I should be talking to god on some of these dosages... Some of my friends take half of what I do and seem to go on some incredible inner monalogues that have them thinking about some pretty amazing things. I have never experienced a truly mind expanding high on shrooms, most of the mental effects I have experienced have been extreme paranoia, fear, finding everything funny... But I've never had a really positive, mind trip.. Am I missing something here? Should I take more? Or am I just one of these people thats just out of luck?

I'm thinking taking more is not the anser (I posted about a truly negative experience I had recently), could this be a state of mind thing? I've been doing mushrooms for 10 years and I have never had the kind of mind expansion I read about.

I am extremly bi-polar too, so I think that might be a factor. I have to maintain a strict level of mental discipline to keep my moods in a "safe" range. Usually mushies simply enhance the "false positive" that I have put my mind into and leads to a good giggly time (alternately, a "bad" mood can be devastating with mushies so I am very carefull about when and where I take them).

The fact that you mention you are bipolar raises a flag for me.
Are you taking any medications for that at all? I know bipolar
disorder is sometimes treated with lithium or antidepressants.
I'm personally on antidepressants for depression (go figure...) and
I've read about interactions with many other drugs, both pharmaceutical
and recreational. Many drugs used to treat emotional disorders
have an effect on the levels of serotonin in the brain, as well as
other chemicals like norepinephrine and others that I probably don't
really know about.

I've read a lot of stuff stating that many drugs won't work when taken
with antidepressants, or you'll require larger doses in order to
achieve the same effects. For example, I've tried ecstasy before
and it had absolutely no effect on me. My friends were rolling
all night and I felt nothing. I've had similar experiences with
mushrooms. I took a dose of about 2.5 grams and had a great time,
but other people who took the same dose were feeling much more intense
effects. I've read that it can take twice the dose or even more
to achieve the same effects.

If that's not the case, then maybe you just have a higher tolerance for psilocybin.

I have been unmedicated for several years, and my doctor has been advocating the use of Marijauna for treatment of the manic period of this disorder.

I react abnormally to traditional forms of treatment, and many pharmacutical drugs have little effect, or extreme side effects. I have been involved in several clinical trials for experimental medication as I fall within a narrow 3% margin of sufferers that are not treatable.

This probably has a great deal to do with my "issue". Even Anesthetics do not function correctly in my body (they couldnt knock me out for my wisdom teeth).. And I have woken up mid-surgery before (sat upright in the middle of my tonsilectomy).

Its extremely frustrating to put it midly
