A technological view of the rave scene. Looks at American research on the longterm effects of ecstasy (MDMA) on the brain neurotransmitter serotonin. Dr Charles Grob of UCLA studies its use in therapy. Alexander Shulgin, the `father of ecstasy’ creates psychoactive drugs in his garden-shed lab. Charts the evolution of rave and its technology. Moves from 3000 teenagers in an aircraft hangar in Kent, via an Orbital show in Amsterdam to 1000 techno-hippies in the Nevada desert.

Examines the science and technology of the rave experience, considering the effects of the music, the lighting, new video technology and the neuroscience of the drug ecstasy. Features Dr. Charles Grob of UCLA and Alexander Shulgin, a pharmacologist.

Haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but it looks promising.

Thats awesome the fact that someone is finally talking about the technical aspect. This is awesome because some of the Rave's my friend SWIM attended were some of the most tech friendly visually stunning and was like a harmony to his hears, an orchestra to his ears and pure pleasure to his body.

I am sure my friend will love to read more about the technical aspects and thanks you for posting this board.

After posting this, I have downloaded the all the parts and they seem to be corrupted! Has anyone succeeded in watching this?

What software do you use to extract and play .rar files?

.rar is a compressed file, u need to unzip it. my ferret uses a program called "unzip them all" but if swiy googles it im sure she can find a load of other good freeware progams

I used WinRAR, which should work, but maybe I'll try another one. Any suggestions?

Anyone have a download link, searching the net I keep coming up with programs that say they are free then when I go to download them after giving my details they ask for payment!

Am i allowed to post a DL link? if swiy googles "7 zip" in google the first hit should be a site for the 7-zip program, which is a pretty good one.

There seems to indeed be a problem with the files though, at least with "part 2" it says the avi file is "broken"

Thanks I have downloaded it, but it seems the files are corrupt. If anyone can find this documentary elsewhere on the net please let me know.

i found the movie on google video, it says its 51 min long seems to be the full thing.

Just finished watching it, interesting video, kind of skimmed through alot of topics without going in depth into alot of them. Some good footage with Shulgin in there, and a brief insight into some mdma research. Didn't really agree with some of the statements about the music being "content free" and "melodyless" but however, it really deals with the progression of electronic music as opposed to rave alone.

Not a bad documentary, but to much time was given to the discredited and dishonest Ricaute, although perhaps at that time he hadn't retracted his research. I was interested in the research about people's 'happiness level' at raves. Maybe I should start going to them.

The section from 10mins 45 secs is particularly interesting. Showing the controlled trial of pharmaceutical quality MDMA on the volunteer is illuminating as to its effects - if it makes someone sat in a bed surrounded by cameras and people want to dance its obvious why it has such a powerful effect in the clubland environment - the BEST documentary I have ever seen from any perspective. Equinox was always compulsive watching back in the early 90's.
