Mind games

I noticed one this sort of thread already exists, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. It wasn't a collection of mind tricks but rather one mindfuck of paranoid nature by the original poster and other discussion. This is more about playing with your inner consciousness, or I should say that the focus is more in the way how you use that consciousness; ofcourse you can't focus on that consciousness but you use it to focus on things of outside of the (illusionary) you. So post here tricks how you can drastically alter the feeling of your body or mind in a possibly insightful or spiritual way. One could call these games as meditation. There are plenty, you only need imagination, and ofcourse virtually all of them are much much more efficient under the influence, for example, weed.

For example, uniting the physical sense of yourself to the inner vision sense.

This one sent strong waves of euphoria and excitement running through my body when I only had a couple of drinks of rum. It's easiest to play all this sort of games with your eyes closed and my preference is lying on a bed. First you need to relax and concentrate on the texture that forms in your field of sight when you have your eyes closed and look as if your eyes were open; you know what I'm talking about, forming something very unintentionally and not thinking what it might be.
Next raise a vague image of you laying on the room, formed of the very texture you saw. I mean that use the texture to cover the surface of everything, you with the surroundings, no need to make sharp division. It's only important that you think of the image as you were looking yourself, don't pay attention to the details of the image, it's supposed to be hazy and standing out of the random noise you 'see' your eyes closed. Actually, you don't even need to form any picture, as long as you conceive yourself as looking at you laying there. Then concentrate on your body, and place it in the imagination of you lying on bed. You need to be very relaxed and kind of fluently change from your bodily feeling to the visual in the back of your mind. The point is that the realization that you are in fact laying on the bed hits you. If you get it right that brings about quite intense energy rush through your chest, at least that's what I got out of it. A little like an adrenaline rush from falling, but not indentical, softer and more profound, some sort of feeling akin to waking up.

It creates a feeling of realization that you are one with the surroundings since you feel your sense of yourself put in your mind, where you 'see' your body as an object of same value with others in the room. Or continous with the room. It also connects the chaotic visionary formed in the back of your eyelashes to the reality around you. Usually after doing that trick I go on and imagine the room vaguely with random 3d noise.

Ofcourse this same feeling can be achieved by a million other ways too, this is just the way I found produced very profound experience.

Another way would be concentrating intensely on some point of space around you and then placing your head(in a sense of placing all the senses of your head) in that spot. It feels a bit different, an OBE almost.

A very simple method of creating euphoria is imagining a warm feeling on your chest and/or stomach. As if they were made of very warm water for example. By doing it for some time the euphoria accumulates.

By changing your attention on different parts of your mind or body chaotically and rapidly, but not focusing too intensely, can about on a mental high, the feeling of excitement of going out of control. Sometimes I notice I have unwittingly started rolling my eyes upwards, which is by itself very efficient means of achieving... well a strange feeling.

Also creating the adrenaline rush of free fall is very nice. It only takes a bit imagination, just simply looking around you as if you were somewhere very high and then just jumping off the cliff or whatever. Feel the feeling in the bottom of your stomach you get when you jump. And/or imagine the weightlessness of your body and the accelerating speed the earth comes closer.

These are very simple mind games and there's no mystical insight about these, but they can be very strong and relaxing experiences. Comment on your success or add your own ones.

Good idea, reminds me of the self-aware perception common on LSD

Re: Mind games

An interesting meditative yet quite strenuous exercise I enjoy is simply standing, for a long time on end, without motion. The technique originates from a tai chi practice.

It's simple, yet interesting to partake in for the experience of different stages of relaxation and strain your whole body and mind progress through. You can feel different muscles take action to support the usual ones which give way. You can observe how your posture affects the way you feel.

Stand shoulder width apart, feet parallel to each other and pointing forwards. Eyes relaxed, slightly closed, looking into the distance. Hands by your side, palms touching your thighs not dangling in the air. Kneed slightly bent, and shoulder slightly rolled back. Picture a string attached to the top of your head, holding you up.

Now, don't move. The first few minutes will be easy. The next few, excruciating. As time goes on, you can feel your thighs flex or your feet get sore. Concentrate on staying relaxed, yet using the energy required to remain standing. Use only the muscles you need to, and relax all others. Good luck...

15-30 minutes is a good goal for a while. 45 minutes to an hour is a good accomplishment. The master I know does this exercise every day, in the morning, for 2 hours.

And on a final note, excellent ideas psyche, I'll try out some of the mind games you suggested and post back another day.

A very simple method of creating euphoria is imagining a warm feeling on your chest and/or stomach. As if they were made of very warm water for example. By doing it for some time the euphoria accumulates.SWIM is relatively new to the psych scene (shrooms , acid) and cant express the heights of his new found interest/curiosity about the little 'tricks' SWIY can do to reach a curtain mental or physical state.. which could be reffered to as mediation.. and this one SWIM has found to bring out the best results , although very simple, SWIM finds very efficient and 'user friendly', in swims opinion best and easiest achieved when accompanied by music , especially trance and ambient
tracks. Basically SWIM either just close his eyes or just spaced out , not really focusing on anything , and imagine you body just has this very warm vibrant 'flow' , like waves of warmth flowing through you (as psyche reffered to as very warm water).. hence why swim figured trance or ambient helps a lot as you can base your flow on the bass line of the track .. either way works with or without.. and just let go.
SWIM felt as if he have blended in with everything around him , felt connected with everything around him , as if he had no physical body , just blurred in with the surroundings , all as one.

The standing up one sounds interesting but swim usually takes a comfortable position and stays like that till he realises he hasnt moved for an unreasonable amount of time .. usually the point where swim remembers that he needs water to survive

I would love to hear more suggestions on this topic ;d

btw random question , has anyone experienced a point where you cant determine wether your hands or face is wet or not?

edit* couldnt figure out how to edit , first line of my post was a quote from psyche

Re: Mind games

Egoistical mind games

Number one.

A method that will help lighten up the feeling of your existence as a person. Raise a feeling about what would you say if you would be frustrated and wanted to say something angry, or something deep about yourself, and then change the perception to the outside world as if you'd just realize that the dark/embarrassing consciousness of yours has just made it's way to the dull world by accident and now you just have to see how it reacts. Like you would be talking to people and notice that you slipped some anger throgh your mouth that you have kept inside. This can be done many times, and you can 'converse' with your environment. You don't need a shrink anymore, just a sofa to talk to!

This might not be easy for all people, and it can feel silly to be having a conversation with emotions instead of words, and with environment/yourself instead of other people, but why not; after all we all carry two persons 'inside us', and this can be helpful means of loosening up the internal dialogue and centering your mind and getting in touch with your personal spirit. These methods might be well suitable for socially anxious or frustrated people.

Number two.

This is singing with your ego. This time you became a change in tone of voice. A change in tone of voice is what puts weight on a single point in a flat discussion, and makes the entertaining rhytm in a small-talk. At first it may feel awkward, but the point is to keep going on forward and change the fluctuation more agressive and/or random as you feel like an angry monkey looking at it's own image in mirror. This makes your attention also likely to divide into two, the other is your talking-spirit and the other is aware of the environment and possibly what you are doing. They might in time also melt in one and fade away in present moment, leaving your ego flow around the room, or you may start concentrating on the ego more.

These are much more personal and transpersonal, in a way more earthy techniques. But they work nonetheless, and may be also used to melt the ego away to progress to the ones that are described in the first post.

More to come... not about ego, though.

Re: Mind games

I used to play mind games too in my childhood and early teens, but they leaned more towards the abyssal than the euphoric. One I remember was thinking self-recursive thoughts.
I would shut out my perception of the outside world and turn my mind’s eye inward. Then I would imagine the universe as being limited to the reflection that I could see in the mirror covering the wall in my hallway, everything else being contained in that moment. Then I would imagine another mirror placed in front of it, another universe, the two mirrors reflecting each other to infinity, constructing new worlds in worlds in worlds at the speed of the light traveling between them, and myself falling into the chasm of worlds as into an infinite stairwell, passing through each universe at exponentially increasing speed, towards the infinitely small and infinitely distant singularity at the center, where the worlds stretch into oblivion.
The eruption of worlds being born inside each other would rise like a wave inside me, growing into a permanent explosion, and I would let myself fall into infinity, until the vision stretched to the boundaries of my mind and burst like a baloon, vanishing and exploding outwards as shivers radiating throughout my body.

Re: Mind games

I find that if i look in the mirror, directly into my pupils, not focusing on any one pupil, but just a "mindful gaze " brings about strange things, at first intense fear, as I found it VERY difficult to look away, almost as if I was hypnotizing myself.

Yah, that is very true. Three days after a mild acid experience SWIM got stuck staring himself in the mirror of the toilet, and stared at his own face very disfocused, and his face slowly covered by really cool and realistic snakelike patterns. The best of OEV's SWIM has had. This works pretty well without any chemical aids, too. There just isn't much patterning, but strange things start to happen. We are so accustomed to reading things from facial expressions that staring a long time into the eyes of a motionless face is a gesture of amazement, or a gesture of asking if he is lying, can he keep the poker face.
