snorting vs shooting: compensating for dosage

Swim was surprised he couldn't find the answer to this in these forums, but here goes: if a certain amount, say 1/4 of a bag, of heroin is just right for SWIM to inject (swim's tolerance is pretty low) , how much will give the same high for snorting? a half bag? is there a rule of thumb for converting? Swim wants to go with the less addictive route here but isn't sure how to switch.

I can't answer your question, all i can say is there really isn't a less addictive route, only a less damaging route. I am glad you want to stop the injecting, that is a good move, but what was asked would depend on a couple of things.

The type of gear it is, is it brown, or is it white (heroin 3 or heroin 4, soluble in water or not), if it is soluble in water then it probably will be just as potent when snorting but not as intense (this is just an opinion though, i can't speak from experience ie. snorting and heroin 4 for that matter). If the heroin is brown or black tar (heroin 3), then smoking it would probably be the better option, for this it is anyone's guess really, but i would estimate for 1/4 of a bag injected, you might need as much as 3 times more smoked, but this is a pure guess.

Even so, when ones tolerance is low then it best kept low, and smoking a bag a day isn't really a lot. While it will take more when smoking, it is far safer, firstly one can't really overdose from smoking cause you can't smoke something when you're unconscious (which would occur long before respiratory depression sufficient to cause death) and it is most definitely a less damaging way to take it, both in terms of infection (bacterial and viral) and overall physical deterioration which is the inevitable result of an unaffordable habit.
