Is There a Law Against Stockpiling Legally Prescribed Controlled Substances?
This may sound like a stupid question, but this is a practice that many people do and never even question as to whether it is illegal or legal. SWIM is the paranoid type and while he doesn't seem to be able to find any law saying you can't save up your medicine for a rainy day, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find such a law on the books.
For instance, SWIM's grandfather who has an extreme panic disorder was worried that when Y2K occured that the world could be thrown into mass catastrophe and he was afraid he would be without his normally prescribed xanax(alprazolam). He got bottles of 180 pills with 5 refills... had been on benzos all his life, with no history of drug abuse. SWIM has never even seen his grandfather take a drop of alcohol. He took usually only took 1 pill per day... but as time went on he stockpiled 6 bottles of 180 pills for Y2K. Is this against the law? If you are regularly prescribed a controlled substanced but take less than prescribed and accumulate a stockpile, is this against the law?
