N2O Dangers..

Hey, I searched the forum for this sort of thread "dangers of nos, nitrous" etc. but couldn't find anything. Please link me if one exists and feel free to close this thread. Otherwise..

What are some of the negative side effects and dangers of nitrous use, both short and long term? What is it's safety relative to other drugs? What is it dangerous to use with? Are there any dangers surrounding improper administration? Is there much potential for addiction (relative to other drugs)?

Any other questions you can think of please add to the discussion.

Re: N2O Dangers..

An overview is included here: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...27&postcount=7

I am planning to improve that, especially the vitamin B12 depletion part (learned a lot since then).

Re: N2O Dangers..

SWIM loved the hippie crack (common nickname for it) until she took a triple whip and had an epileptic seizure. ems said there was a lack of oxygen to the brain for too long. first and only one to have. hasn't done it since. just remember moderation.

Re: N2O Dangers..

SWIM bought cartridges of N2O from a head shop (they are primarily used for re-usable whipped cream dispensers). Each "whip-it" (the cartridge) holds enough N2O to starve the brain of oxygen just long enough to provide a deliciously euphoric sensation- usually lasting about a minute. SWIM built a tolerance quickly and was going through one to two boxes of a 24-pack every day... Always taking two hits at a time (approx 1.5-2 min worth). One night while she was with a friend, she decided to inhale three of the cartridges- it took three inhales to get it all. SWIM only remembers the first inhalation. Soon, she began convulsing from a prolonged lack of oxygen to the brain and then passed out. It was a terrible feeling. Ever since, SWIM has never quite been the same- like her brain was weakened from it. LSD trips are much harder now. SWIM feels like her brain got a taste of death that night, and now every time she trips, her brain craves that feeling again, and she begins to feel it shutting down. This could all just be in her head, but SWIM will never do N2O again.

This is not meant to scare anyone... I was asked to expand on SWIM's experience, so I did. Please do not make judgements or decisions based on one person's experience. This is solely for informational purposes only.

Was SWIY using a balloon to inhale the nitrous?

Can SWIY elaborate on this part a little more? Did SWIY use the in-and-out method of breathing into the balloon, did SWIY take one inhalation and hold it in, when exactly did the convulsing and passing out take place, etc.?

Re: N2O Dangers..

SWIM took three large inhalations (one after the other, holding it in for as long as SWIM could). the convulsions began after the third hit, but SWIM doesn't remember. seizures are like falling asleep. SWIM woke up very disoriented and thinking she had been sleeping.

Re: N2O Dangers..

Hm. I can believe this. The worst that ever happened to Swim on nitrous was passing out in the half-lotus position and having his girl wake him up at 4am to come to bed (more than twice... ). He has had a similar experience to the one described above, but it was whilst on DXM.

Swim has done a lot of dex. His seizure happened on a mix of 800mg DXM and 60mg codeine, both of which can cause respiratory depression; and he's a smoker, so his lungs aren't great to begin with. He was out of his mind, but feeling fine... until he lit up a cigarette. After just a couple of puffs, he began to feel weak, confused, nauseous, and shaky. He stood up from his chair, intending to go to the kitchen for some water...or maybe go puke, he's not sure...when he saw the aura and collapsed. His girl tells him he was out for a few minutes.

(In his case, the aura took the form of massive strobing (more than usual with DXM, anyway), a metallic taste in his mouth, and the rapid shrinking of his field of vision as if electrical fire was devouring the edges. His vision went to a tunnel, then to a point, then to a peaceful white light with no sense of time or space...)

He's not sure whether it was really oxygen deprivation, or low blood pressure, or what...just that it sucked.

Another time, he was bound and determined to follow the N2O rabbit hole as far as it would go. He'd done something like ten cartridges and was nicely dissociated. He sucked in the next one and held his breath hard. He's not sure for how long, but it was long enough to start getting the seriously bizarre nitrous visions and reach the point where his body was playing tricks on him to try to make him stop. He kept on holding until he felt his heart "scream" at him for air - he felt a mild pain in the area, something he shouldn't have felt at all through the anaesthetic.

He's not sure if he actually hurt it, or if it was just another of his body's tricks, but it was enough to make him stop. He tends to use NOS more gently, these days.

So using that theory, I (woops) SWIM could hold his-her breath and achieve the same thing? Nooo. Nitrous Oxide enters the blood stream rapidly upon exposure to the lungs' membranes and cause mild to extreme (dosage dependent) dissociation upon being there. It has nothing to do with oxygen deprivation, though often times when repeatedly inhaling nitrous, you may accidentally deprive yourself of oxygen.

I've had a fairly small experience with nitrous and it's quite interesting how your body tells you it needs to breathe while under the influence of this drug. It's as if I could hold my breath forever without any pain or suffering (other than, of course, death). It sort of worries me while I'm doing the nitrous that I can hold it for too long. Though passing out would be the worse thing that could happen, it leads to a pretty bad headache and its pretty weird feeling to start breathing again right before you're about to pass out from holding the nitrous in so long.

You feel your heart beating faster and harder every second and you wonder when you'll finally decide to start breathing again. This continues until finally something in you decides you NEED oxygen and you exhale sharply and inhale not-too extremely for you don't FEEL as if you need oxygen, just that your body says you do.

ALSO BACK ON TOPIC:
I was talking to a researcher today who said she'd heard of a lady who is now paralyzed from daily nitrous use at her work (a dentist). B12 deficiency (she was very impressed that I knew <.<) lead to some problem in the spine that caused some type of permanent paralysis. As I don't use it daily (anymore) and didn't do so for a long time, I'm not worried. But some of you should be

Re: N2O Dangers..

well, SWIM's explanation came from the emergency room physicians. as for your experience, SWIM has never felt that way before. do you think that maybe part of your experience stems from some sort of a phobic association? like, maybe on some level, you're afraid of dying from asphyxiation? or maybe SWIM was just a little too stupid with how regularly she did it. lol

on the other note, i've heard of several cases where dentists had developed some sort of problem from daily interaction with nitrous. if being the most feared and hated profession wasn't enough, let's add paralysis to the list of reasons why i will never become a dentist.

No it wasn't phobic it was just that I held my breath for a really fucking long time, and was unable to feel pain due to what I was holding in. And yea, I've heard the shit about dentists, even sometimes unintentionally inhaling nitrous (it is dispelled from the lungs, and into the dentists' rooms).

Re: N2O Dangers..

SWIM have taken 3 chargers(in one balloon) followed by 2 more balloons filled with 2 chargers each in the matter of about 2 mins and all SWIM could say was it just like any other n02 experience SWIM had just lasted a lil longer. (SWIM uses those "punching balloons" the ones with the rubberband... u can fill up to 5 8g chargers in there)

SWIM find myself constantly refilling my balloon as SWIM starts to lose the flanging of sound until the 24 cartridges are gone.... SWIM only does this about once a month if so and in combination with a hallucinogen or molly.

I try to stay away from N02 because it cant be good for you
