Present day reggae bands
Classics such as Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Black Uhuru, the Skatalites, etc are not together or do not perform much today.
http://www.reggaemovement.com/rm1/artists.htm Some reggae bands that are together now and play live are Groundation, Soldiers of Jah Army, Salmonella Dub, Pato Banton, Mystic Roots Band, Selecter, and the Ark Band http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=27455970 http://thearkband.com/index.html Found any other reggae bands that play out live today? Re: Present day reggae bands
I'd recommend The King Blues but they rarely play outside of the UK.

Re: Present day reggae bands
There are a lot of reggae oriented band coming forth; it’s seems like it’s exponentially related to time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_growth soldiers of jah army http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...rch&plindex=17 soldiers of jah army – get wiser http://www.amazon.com/Get-Wiser-Sold...3568162&sr=8-1 Amazon reviewer (on that page) ‘Roots fans need to cop this. Easily the equal to "Peace In A Time Of War," which I thought was a classic. "Get Wiser" shows a more musically mature and diversified SOJA, but they wisely (pun intended) stuck with what they do best -- crafting profound, top-quality, jammin' roots reggae. Plus, any reggae album with local DC legend Go-Go Mickey bangin away has got to be a classic. Along with Groundation (please check out any and all of their albums), SOJA is pretty much the top of the food chain when it comes to real old-school roots reggae these days. Never thought I'd see the day when the best new roots bands would be coming from the U.S., rather than Jamaica or the UK. But SOJA, Groundation, Midnite, John Browns Body, (the related) 10-Foot Ganja Plant and even Matisyahu -- all either from the US or US based -- are definitely representing. Of course, some of the old guard from JA and UK (Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, etc.) are still holding it down, but the best of the new blood is here. Anyway, I digress, buy [or find] the album.’ That might be a bit strong, nevertheless Life Is a Miracle http://www.amazon.com/Life-Miracle-P...3570200&sr=1-6 Unpolished http://www.amazon.com/Unpolished-Mid...3570362&sr=1-1 Keep the Faith http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Faith-Lyr...3570464&sr=1-1 Equal Rights http://www.amazon.com/Equal-Rights-P...3570511&sr=1-3 (Swim tried to upload the first song from the first three, and then Downpressor Man of Peter Tosh; they went beyond the limit for uploading them. Their tunes that may be worth checking out.) Peer to peer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer_to_peer Azureus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azureus bT http://torrentscan.com/ Art is created by those of intelligent origin. Would it exist without us? So does anyone truly own creative manifestations? SWIM got the opportunity to experience a reggae band play; they have some tunes of their own and they cover Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, and of course Marley. It’s almost indescribable how Jah lives through the music. It’s like a tearing down of Babylon |
