Sleep deprivation

Been my 'drug' of choice the past few months (bleh).

Anyone consider sleep deprivation a sort of drug? It definitely alters consciousness in unusual ways.

LOL... no really, I'm only half joking. Stay awake about 48 hrs, it gets dissociative the last 8 hrs or so. & when you finally lay down in bed, it's a brief opiate-like rush the minutes before you drop off... .

Its no joke-- if you are deprived of sleep long enough you will get visual disturbances and confusion.

Just as fasting or staying in a completely dark room for a few days

This is very true. I remember when I used to take speed I would stay up very late and during the last few waking hours I would hear voices, arguements, ect. I was kinda amused by it cause I always knew it wasn't really happening but it sounded so very real. I would also notice strange visuals, but at the time my mind was to tired to really find them interesting.

I used to work as a roady. There where times where we had to work for
over 50 hours straight. We caught naps where we could for half an hour
or so, but other than that you quickly slip into a world of surreality.
Heavy physical exertion greatly increases the insanity of sleep
deprivation.

I remember once being on the last 10 hours of a 50h show. I was riding
in the cab of one of the trucks and I was very tired, but awake - I
felt like I was floating in a tank of warm water. My vision was very
blurry and I noticed rotating cubes and weird forms on the side of the
approaching road. Only with effort could I resolve that these were road
signs and trees.

At some point during this my eyes closed. When I awoke some fifteen
minutes later it was a very weird process. I felt like someone was
sitting on my lap facing me; they were sort of seeping out of my chair
under me too ... After probably ten seconds my vision became clear and
I was awake, but not without being slightly disturbed.

Needless to say, when it was my turn to drive it was time to pull over and sleep

Euh, are you sure those disturbances weren't the result of using speed?

Nope, just the sleep deprevation that speed causes. I've stopped using a long time ago but if I have to stay up really late now I notice those things occuring when I go to sleep.

Heh .. sorry .. elabourating on this would point a finger in my
direction for anyone who wanted to figure out who I was. Suffice to
say, I did contract work for acts that came in within ~25 hours of home
base, not touring on the road with anyone for more than a couple shows
. Touring acts are the sweet gigs <droooool>, but they
don't fit well with going to school.

Sleep deprivation is the key to some of my best ideas/most hillarious adventures. Sleep deprivation always leads me and my friends to rediculous situations (when I say sleep dep I am talking like 3 or 4 days. I feel like ass after I eventually go to sleep, but I have been working shitty night jobs so long i have attuned myself to not sleeping. My sleep dep is not aided by anything other than caffiene either. In Canada, you can be considered legally impared after 24 hours, and studies have shown that not sleeping for 24 hours slows your reaction times and is the equivalent of having a BAL of .08

I tried it, sleeping about 2 hrs a night over like 4
days... It sucks. I wouldn't suggest it unless you
have to. I kept getting confused and irrational, with
some auditory hallucinations. Not to mention you
generally feel like shit... One thing I liked about it was
that on the last night at tweaker:30 in the morning I
smoked 2 bowls of some really strong chron and
had some nice superimposed visuals laying on my
best in the dark with Pink Floyd in the background.
This also made me feel less like shit, so it was
enjoyable. Verdict: sleep deprivation sucks; sleep
deprivation when high is ok for a one time
experiment.

Actually, if you have the normal, monday through friday, dead by thursday schedule, (after a couple of those 5-6 hour nighters) stay up all night, entirely (internet helps) then the next day try and do something that requires concentration especially READING. the most ive seen is blue spots everywhere but it makes you so dazed and confused u feel like your dreaming... my opinion is that its not worth it at all sleep is fucking sexy

I've noticed that after being awake for 48 hours or so that I get much more vivid and memorable dreams when I actually do go to sleep. Anyone else notice this?

sleep deprivation is my idea of hell.24hrs ok.48hrs fine.More than4 days and youll wish you were dead.Youll start hearing strange shit, sometimes when i have slept only a few hrs during the week,i can even hallucinatescary weirdparanoia driven -onlyto be described as-"shit".Nowadays im using melatonin, and when i have to even benzos just to get a good 8hrs of sleep.

I have been living with insomniasince my early childhood, not to mention swim`s past addiction to meth...so IMHO no sleep=no life.
