Smoking - Opium and Water Pipes

because of the main alkaloids in opium being highly soluble in water, would it be wise to smoke opium through a water filtered pipe? or is best to just 'chase the dragon'?

would the water take the alkaloids out of the smoke?

It has been said that water pipes may take some of the alkaloids from the vapor but there so far has been no study to support this as yet so it is pure conjecture at the moment.

One knows of people whom have used a water pipe successfully so one can try both ways if one were inclined and see what the outcome is. (dont try them both at the same time though . . lol)
