Zipeprol: Legal Opioid abused in Korea!

Research found some interesting shit about this Zipeprol. Its an opioid that young people are abusing in Korea. Its completley legal in the USA, though.

Zipeprol: preclinical assessment of abuse potential*1, , *2

Abstract

Zipeprol was evaluated in a number of in vitro and in vivo assays predictive of stimulant, depressant, or opioid abuse potential. Zipeprol had affinity for β and κ opioid binding sites as well as δ binding sites. However, it failed to exert opioid-like agonist actions in rodents, and did not attenuate withdrawal signs in morphine- or pentobarbital-dependent rats. Zipeprol did not substitute for either amphetamine or pentobarbital in drug discrimination assays in rhesus monkeys. On the other hand, it suppressed morphine withdrawal signs in rhesus monkeys in two assays, and it acted as a quadazocine-sensitive reinforcer in monkeys trained to self-inject alfentanil. Zipeprol also acted as a reinforcer in monkeys trained to self-inject methohexital. In a dose range of 10–18 mg/kg, zipeprol induced convulsions in monkeys. Zipeprol appears to have abuse potential and a novel spectrum of action involving both opioid and non-opioid effects.
I've also read that it can effect the sigma aka pcp receptors.

This would make sence because those articles said that the young people abusing this were aiming for hallucenations.

Someone needs to step up to the plate, order this shit and dose it out for us.

Re: Zipeprol: Legal Opioid abused in Korea!

It's probably only available in Korea. It seems to be similar to DXM (opioid & hallucinogen), but seems to cause more deaths.

Holy shit! They're training monkeys to inject themselves with dope? That's got to be one of the most interesting, disturbing, and most of all humorous things that I've heard in quite some time.

This is a very common (and accurate) scientific model of studying the addiction potential of certain substances.

1-methoxy-3-[4-(2-methoxy-2-phenyl-ethyl)piperazin-1-yl]-1-phenyl-propan-2-ol

Quote:
The abuse of zipeprol, an antitussive agent, was found to be most prevalent among young people in Korea. Because abusers take large doses of this drug for its hallucinogenic effects, fatalities from zipeprol overdose abuse have been on the rise since 1991. Since 1991, a total of 69 zipeprol-related deaths have occurred throughout the nation. A demographic study shows that in ninety six percent of cases involving ziperol alone, the victims were in their teens and twenties. The male/female ratio in zipeprol related death was 3.5:1. Most of these zipeprol-associated deaths occurred in the larger cities of Seoul and Inchon. The blood concentration of zipeprol ranged from 0.8 to 38.3 micrograms/mL in single drug involved deaths, while zipeprol varied from 0.1 to 35.3 micrograms/mL in zipeprol and dextromethorphan victims.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9875445

Quote:
Zipeprol and dextromethorphan are abused together by young people in Korea to obtain a stronger hallucinogenic effect. Because large amounts of these drugs are taken for this reason, nine fatal poisonings due to zipeprol and dextromethorphan have been reported since 1993... μg/g.

It does seem to be somewhat like DXM (a cough medicine) and dangerous, especially if mixed with DXM.

outriderx: the difference is that this zipeprol has caused 69 deaths in 8 years in a small country.

Is this stuff more like an opiate or more like dxm?It is too bad we don't have some Korean users with some experience reports.

Re: Zipeprol: Legal Opioid abused in Korea!

The molecule itself looks far more similar to DXM than it does to other opiates. Perhaps one of the metabolites it produces has a chemical structure similar to an opiate? No idea. One would be interested in finding out more about this chemical but would be in NO hurry to try it.
